Karen Taylor passed away this past Sunday, June 26th. She has worked for me for many years compiling the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department’s Weekly Fishing Report for West Texas and the Panhandle. I don’t have full details of the cause of death, but heard it may have been heat stroke related.

Karen was 55 years old. She was an outdoors woman and worked to promote women in the outdoors and especially fishing.

Her death is a sad loss for the Texas outdoor community. Our prayers are with Sam and her family.

Rest in peace Karen.

Her obituary from the Amarillo Globe-News

Karen Wisemen Taylor, 55, of Amarillo died Saturday, June 26, 2010.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Schooler Funeral Home at 4100 S. Georgia St. from 5 to 8 p.m. Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday, July 1, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Amarillo South Church, 6901 Bell St.

Karen was born in Amarillo to John and Martha Wiseman on Nov. 21, 1954. She lived her entire life in the Panhandle area. She graduated from West Texas A&M University with a B.A. and an MBA. She married husband Sam Taylor in Canadian in 1996.

Karen worked for the past 8 years at the Pantex Plant in Amarillo. Previous work included sportswriter for the Amarillo Globe-News, National Rifle Association, and various other sports publications. She was a certified PMP and Six Sigma Black Belt. Karen was a certified cosmetologist and a member of the Harley Owners Group. She was president of Project Management Institute, Amarillo chapter. She served as a loaned executive for United Way and helped raise funds for Toys for Tots.

Karen's many interests included hunting, fishing, running fishing tournaments, and promoting professional fishing for women. She was a member and officer of many fishing organizations. Karen was an accomplished artist with many dedicated art shows. Karen actively promoted getting women involved in hunting and fishing.

Survivors include her parents John and Martha Wisemen; husband, Sam Taylor; children, Dallas Dotts of Amarillo, Colby Kitchens, Aspen Taylor (both of the home), and Chance Taylor and wife Jenny of Abilene; Mandie Taylor of College Station; grandchildren, Tatyn Taylor, Keesy Taylor, Krissen Taylor, and Samantha Patterson; her brother, Wes Wiseman; her mother-in-law, Virginia Taylor; and other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to United Way of Amarillo and Canyon, 2207 Line Ave., Amarillo, TX 79106.

Im late getting to this, but this is terribly sad when a person like this dies. Someone who has contributed so much to make others lives more enjoyable.

She is fishing the best fish in heaven, and god bless her for the time she had here and what she did for all of us.

My family and I will keep her and her family in our prayers.

I didn't know her, but she must have been one heck of a fine person. My gosh just look at all of her accomplishments and hobbies and charitable activities. I'm sure she will be missed dearly. God bless her and her family.

Wow, how sudden and very sad. I trained her back in 98 as one of TPWD Angler Education Instructors for the Panhandle. We had become good friends and unfortunately, lost touch with one another. May God lead her through His footsteps and comfort her family during this time of loss.

We'll see one another again one day!

A true loss!
