Wound up buying the Ocean Kayak Drifter/Angler Im the 6'1" 285lb guy from previous thread thought Id share my initial reviews
Only had it out on some calm lakes not in the surf or anything wild yet. Nearly all the feedback I found on the Internet turned out to be accurate.
1. it is a wet ride with a big guy at the helm, footwell scuppers taking on about 2in deep
2. its very stable I can move around hang my legs off the side feels like it might tip but it doesnt
3. paddles relative easy, tracks moderately well the purists will scoff but Im just fishing not trying to save 3 calories per paddle stroke
4. manuevers real well, does u-turns in place, back paddles good, its pretty wide and I really could make use of a longer paddle
5. for whatever reason this Angler version comes without sidehandles, of course O K wants $40 bucks or something, same exact handles are available for $12.95 plus 8 stainless 10-32 x 1/2 bolts most Home Despots only sell 10-24 I found out...has places to mount a rudder kit too
6. the forward hatch is pretty big, bigger than I will ever need rear deck well is small too small for a milk crate just right for a Plano soft sider etc
7. the only good place to mount my Scotty fly rod holder amidships is in the little well intended for a tackle box between the leg wells. It has a strap for a Plano mini-mag or similar looking at modifying the flush mount with heat to fit the contour just forward of the footwell. the footwell appears to be long enough for someone longer legged than me (Im a 30in inseam) I could use the next to last foot stop as well as the 2nd to last
8. it will probably be better all around with a seat, 2hr and a half of paddling and my butt went a little numb, the seat contour is way too wide and a little flat I have your typical white boy type small hiney, I ride a Harley 200mi bewteen fuel stops for 12 hour days so yeah most guys will want a seat in this boat unless they gots some built in padding back there so add another $80-$100 but your all good to go for about 7 bills.
Id really appreciate any rigging info or feedback from other OK Drifter owners. This boat may not satisfy everyone it dont paddle like a touring yak and its not fast but so far it looks to be a great fishing platform for big guys nonetheless. Will report back on how it does for taking baits out past the 3rd bar later.
I fish because the voices tell me to...

You have a fishing vessel that you are pleased with and that is what matters. Now let's see some pics with some fish slime on it. Cheers.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
