I have seen a few videos about the Bisharat Pole Dancer, the fly that walks the dog.

http://www.flyfishingoutfitters.com/onli...ncer_fire_tiger

Not ready to shell out 14 bucks for one, I picked up some balsa and decided to make one myself.

This is model #4. It took quite a while to create, but it walks the dog! I am quite excited about it, was a fun project

+1 on Cody's post. I don't usually get into "that's too much for a fly" but this time I'll have to call Uncle.

Here's a video of it in action. It does look good in the water. Now you've got me wondering if I could make something with a similar motion out of sheet foam. smile

So did you carve the whole lure or make it by doing the angle cuts? It looks like you got it down pretty good.

With the economy it it's current state, I humbly submit that not all of us can afford a Pole Dancer of our own. In the spirit of knockoffery and penny pinching that made this country (and, in turn, China) great, I submit unto you:

The Dayshift Waitress

She's tied on a 1/0 Gamakatsu B10S, so she's a little big. Please try to look past the bullet holes and knife scars. Yes, I know she has no eyes, but I'm going to take her out to the lake to see how she does before I go springing that kind of cash on her. You have to take these kinds of things slowly to avoid heartache and disappointment. If the trip to the lake goes well, I may be able to avoid the removal of belly material (aka tummy tuck).

Kinda makes you tear up a little, don't it?

I'll have her singing the National Anthem at a NASCAR event before you know it. smile

Hey, if it saves us 10 bucks per "fly" and has a similar action, then I'm all fer it.

Have you had a chance to water test your version yet?

I submit sir you have created one sexy fly, and also a bit of nausea in describing TXRR's 1$ l@p dancer!!

TXRR I allow you free use of the 1$ l@p dancer name. No royalties necessary.

LOL @ sexy carpenter!

Yes, tested it last night and she walks, think heavy hook, to keep it low in the water. almost try to sink the head otherwise it will just pop, but still catch fish

Well the Waitress has some pretty healthy lead wire wrapped up under her hackle.

SC, that is a good name and I don't want it to go to waste, so how about we bestow it on this even cheaper version? smile

If you can't afford to get the Dayshift Waitress working for you, maybe you'll want to give a few minutes to the...
Dollar Lap Dancer

I know she looks a lot like Charlie's Plopsicle (most of my flies do) in her street clothes, but if we peek underneath...

...we find an unexpected addition. That orange skid plate, which is basically the foam diver tied on the wrong side of the hook, should give us more of a skittering motion. I don't know if she'll walk the dog, but I'll probably take a bit of lead wire to 'speriment with when I take it out for aquatic testing.

Are we headed to the wall of shame yet? smile

No wall of shame until Robin locks the post!!

Although with the "unexpected addition" comment this could almost be the Trany fly

I'm thinking you guys need to rethink you attitudes about pole dancers. Keep in mind, all most of them wanted to do was join a local fire department. The Man wouldn't let them do that. Where else do you expect them to find a brass pole to shimmy down?

Here we were having a perfectly innocent discussion about fly tying and you have to come in and make some lurid reference to exotic dancers. As soon as I find a responsible party, I shall have to tell.

Robin, do you know a responsible party? smile

Well, most of the likker ads encourage that we party responsibly. But a responsible party? I'll need to do
some serious research and get back with you...just kiddin'. smile

Reminds me. My sister had a firefighter's cookbook. The theme was dishes which could be stopped in the middle of cooking, and resumed after the alarm was answered. That was some good chicken.

Alright, I tried twice with this shape from a wine cork. It ended up giving a pretty nice popper retrieve, but it certainly didn't walk the dog. No picture as it is currently in a tree smile

What's the key? I did my best just eyeballing from the pictures, and it looked like I got pretty close.

Do the sides need to be round ie. convex? I kept mine pretty flat, but I made the center concave.

What was wrong with your first three attempts?

the front of the head was to wide, it needs to taper towards the front.

They also sat high in the water like a popper, notice in the video how low it sits. Low is the key. It has to be low down in the water 2/3rd's under.

Last, I started with a 45 degree angle, which is not even close to how his is... I ended up throwing a chunk on the dremmel to get the body shape and taper. Used the Dremmel as a lathe and sandpaper to make the shape, and then took it off the dremel and sanded angled front by hand.

Just for fun i did this:

It walks the dog and is flyrod castable lmao though I am embarrassed posting this. Was more of a fun afternoon than a serious attempt.

Fine looking plug there. Even better that it can be flung with a fly line! Is it strong enough to keep a fish from running off with one of those trebles?

I was looking at this and I thought "tube fly" That might work doncha think? Only thing would be getting a hook up front where the fish often hit first.
