Review: Drainage ditch beside Holiday Inn on 121
Where: Grapvine, TX
Rating: 4
Availbility: price of a hotel room
Size: 1/5 of an Acre
Fish: LMB, big sun fish

Description: Went to an inservice school in Grapevine. Pulled into the hotel and see this ditch full of water with vegitation and cattails around it. Then splash, something hit he surface. Well I looked in and saw LMB. Asked the clerk if I could fish there and she said, "Knock yourself out cowboy." Luckily Bass Pro was nearby. Bought a cheap spinning combo and some green albino flukes. I spent every free moment fishing in that ditch. Probably caught 15-20 a day. Biggest was over 4 lbs. On day three I had company from a guy from the neighboring hotel who had watched me the day before. Wonder what that school was about...didn't learn a thing.

Review: Hi-Lions Lake off Pecan Valley Drive
Where: Southeast side of San Antonio (Community Lake)
Rating: 0
Availability: Free
Size: 10 acres
Fish: basically it's a duck pond, but has some LMB, sunfish

Description: Long neglected pond and stocked sparesly over the years. It has become overgrown with brush because of a treehugger mentality, and access to the bank is restricted to less than 10% of the shoreline because of over hanging limbs and weed and brush growth around shore and in the water.

I contacted the people who volunteer to keep watch over the park, but they tend to be more concerned about the ducks and hugging the trees than they do about making it accessable to fishermen. They claim that the brush is needed for nesting, and that the area is to be kept in a more natural setting with limited trimming and mowing. Thus the treehugger label I've given it.

Waste of time, unless you just like to hang out, hug the trees, and watch the ducks.

Really great pond for a small pond hopper boat. Amazingly clear, rocky bottom. Lots of ledges and mid lake humps. Not many places for bankbeating though. We went today and caught over 20 nice 1-3lbers. One good one that mighta went 4. Very nice scenery around the lake as well as the apartment pool that happens to be close smile.

Review: turtle creek
Where: Downtown dallas on oaklawn and blackburn
Rating: 5
Availability: Free
Size: about 2 miles of creek
Fish: LMB,blue cats and channels

If you park in the parking area off blackburn and oaklawn you can catch some pretty nice size hogs. I used chartruse spinner baits and 7in black cherry culprit worms and when the sun is going down i used buzz baits. biggest i have caught there is about a 6 1/2 pounder lots of 4lbs and if you fish for cats you can catch some nice ones about 2-20lb cats using feeder fish from petsmart.

Gabbard Park in College Station, Tx

3 out of 5 (more fishing trips are needed)
Free
Pond is small but does have a fountain.

I fished this pond about 5 times and out of 4 times of fishing caught one small blue gill. The 5th trip ended up with 5 channel catfish and 1 blue gill using bacon. I'm not really a bass fishermen so i can't say if they are in there or not but 2 or 3 of the catfish were legal to take home. Because of the easy of fishing on the 5th day i give it a 3 out of 5.

Description: caught them on deep crankbaits, brush hogs, spider grubs, drop shot worms, ect....

Do not get me wrong, this pond has a ton of fish in it, they are just really small. I spent 2 days out there, it is a beautiful pond with about 10 ft visibility. 1st day, I spent fishing the flats and ledges on both ends of the pond, caught around 20 bass, nothing over 1.2lbs. Second day I fished deep water, humps, random structure in 17+ feet, ect, caught about 20 fish, nothing over 1.3lbs. I am sure there is a few 4lbs in here, but I get the feeling it was stocked in the last year or so, and the fish just need to grow up. Nice fun pond with a jon boat/bass buster. There is also some places to bank fish around it. Very pretty pond, if you are looking for numbers, it is great.

Bombay, that is a huge fish for there!

No joke huh! That's the biggest I pulled outta there. My uncle caught about a 4#er over on the NW side by that tree that over hangs into the water. Tons of perch over there that rip the legs off my brushhogs. smile

pond behind home depot in waxahachie has been SLOW lately. grass has taken over the bottom 2ft of the lake and fish are suspended. I did manage to snag a few bites on top water over shallow grass first thing in the morning but that was about it. water level is about 2ft low so its a great time to get out on a pond hopper and check for all the high spots you want to fish in the fall or spring. tough fishing though.
