so i have looked around on NADA website and it is showing the value of a 98 Champion being like 7k. the boat has tons of extras and is in really good shape but the guy is asking 12500... could somebody good with values please explain this to me. or do you think the asking price is just way too high...

What kind of extras? How old are they? How big and how old is the motor?

I would bid him 9.5

NADA does not apply to boats. The condition of the boat is what matters. What is the length of the boat, the size of the motor, what kind of electronic are on it and what trolling motor.

There was a thread on BassBoatCentral about this very thing. Most 10 year old boats are priced way over what NADA says they're worth and they also bring that price. It's a sellers market right now on used boats. Banks are making it tough to buy new ones so the used ones are gold. Not only is it tough for a guy to get new boat financing, it's tough for the dealer to get financing to buy the inventory. You're seeing the trickle down from that.

A 98 model for $12.5K ? That had better be a Boston Whaler with a new Yammy 200 on it and not a Champion bass boat...if not...no thanks.

I think its too high for what he has. my 82 has literally everything in and on it new, the 175 runs great, hb 797si, 2 more 717 birds, 70# mk edge troller, 6" hyd jp, front deck extension, and much more I have put about 15k into it and would ask 12,500 if I was gonna sell it for a comparison.
his electronics and troller are not that great, for what you listed I would say 8-8.5 max for that boat.

NADA sucks if you are a seller, but its great if you are a buyer. NADA does not consider the cost or labor associated with the add on's or condition of a boat. The best thing to do is find comps for sale. Then + for options and condition of the boat, and - if it applies.

i love my 86 champ. she's gotten me out of some bad stuff and she's got a huge middle live well which would fit a 20 lb fish without folding her in half

I just finished my boat search... Got a 2000 Champion 191! Love it!! Rides better than my previous 98 20' skeeter!

Yes, NADA means nothing for boat values... The supply and demand in TX is ridiculous!

I just found a SWEET deal and paid less than what that 98 is costing you!! laugh

That sounds way too high for that boat. The electronics and TM have not been updated since the boat was built. I have a 2000 and I still have the x48 up front that came with the boat new, and just got rid of the MG Brute 56# TM. You can get a 2000 or newer Champion with better accessories for ~12k.
