Almost everytime im on the water, its dark. Buy batteries, cap lights, and underwater uv stobes to go with it. The batteries go in your required 360-light, cap lights go on your hat, and if you can remember where the strobe goes youll be fine.

Yes, night fish all the time in the summer. Anchoring off in the lake under a full moon, bucket full of minnows and a cooler full of beer. Just make sure you have all the appropriate lighting to be seen and safe, and you can have an awesome time on the water fishing. Good luck.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Its difficult to leave your truck alone near the lake, at night. Leave it empty if you can. One of those Streamlight stylus things with a uv led($20) make activating glow in the dark accesories easy(fish-grip, reel-grips, rod-tips, compass, etc). Bring a gun, stuff it in a dry bag or whatever you must do. Kayakers are easy targets, and treaspassing/use of navicable(spelling?) waterway laws are unclear in many states. Beer is better left @ the house(imo).

Night kayak fishing is an awesome experience. Exciting and sometimes risky. Be prepared but get ready to enjoy the water at night. There is nothing else like it!

I fish at night during crappie season. And I also like to get on the water early in the morning while its still dark. Just make sure you have the proper 360* light and dont kayak in the middle of a large lake or where there is lots of boat traffic.

Night fishing the marinas at Texoma during the summertime might be the only way to get on the lake at that time of year.

Use your best judgment when choosing what night is right. Take the time to check the weather and see an hourly graph, wind speed/barometric pressure just as important at night.

Agreed. As much fun kayaking at night is, it is one of the most dangerous time to be kayaking. You will want to be sure that you are well illuminated, typically well beyond the minimum requirement of visible 360 deg around your yak. It is next to impossible to be spotted by a fast moving boat. You will want something powerful enough to act as a spot light to warn approaching boats in addition to your general lighting. And two is better than one if you can fit both your stern and bow with a light. Conspicuity tape is a great reflecent tape that will provide a reflection even in the slightest of light conditions.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

i enjoy night yak fishing. for lake & rivers make darn sure you can be seen! IMO worst time is at sun up & sun down. when reflectors don't work well & sun is in boats eyes and they are trying to hurry to there honey hole or get off of the water all boozed up

Some notes on night fishing-
Dont go in bad weather/windy conditions. Wear your life jacket at all times, even if you get hot. Take something to drink because youll still get hot. Wear bright, reflective clothing. Take a small, Surefire style flashlight. Also take a cap light. On a pole or spare rod, attach 2-3 glowsticks. You now have your 360 light. Don stray more that 10 -15 yards from shoreline. That will avoid most of the boats running fast. Take bug repellant. Look at the stuff you fish with in the day and reduce by half. Fishing with single hooks will tangle you less than fishing with trebles. Fishing with braid and trebles will cause you heartache. If you have a CCW permit, use it. A dept finder will indicate how deep youre fishing in. It will also provide a nice night light. A spinnerbait with a big Colorado blade is gold. After youre done and packed, double check youre not leaving anything behind at the ramp. Like your paddle. Have a red bull for the ride home.

Thats funny, I carry two red bull just for that reason. Chug one after load-up, then immediatly crack the other for the ride home. Funny stuff!
