I am considering buying a boat that has a Tohatsu brand engine. Has anyone here had any experience with this brand? The few people I have spoken with that have heard of them have said that in their opinion it is a good motor, but I would like some of ya'lls input and opinion.
Thanks

I have one on my flounder boat. It's a 30HP four stoke. It has worked well for me, never had any trouble with it. Good power and QUIET.

No problems with those engines. They are also the same as the Nissian engines. Tohotsu is the mother company. Wearhouse is in Cleaburn and they guarantee to ship parts within 24 hours. I personally have ran several, treated them like Pu-Pu. and never had a lick of problem. So yeah, go ahead, you won't be dissapointed.

My fishing buddy bought one about a year ago and has had great luck with it. It is a smooth running machine. If the motor on my small boat ever blows that is what I will replace it with.

Thanks for all the input guys. I went to Houston to look at another boat, but ended up buying the one with the Tohatsu. I spoke with several guys who have had experience with them, and was assured that the brand is of the highest quality, and a well established brand that is used heavily worldwide. Like your responses here, not a single person had a bad thing to say about them...unlike some of the cussing that goes on because of our "domestic" brands. As a matter of fact, it was given the highest accolades by all to whom I spoke. I appreciate the input.

I have beat up my 1995 Tohatsu 40 3-cyl for the last 12 years (bought used in 1998....it was practically bran new then...just a few hours on it). It still runs like a champ.
In 2003 I hit a stump and needed a new lower unit. Other than that.....new spark plugs and changing the lower unit lube is all I have ever done.
I have been VERY happy with it!
