Been using a couple of those coil-type rod holders that push into the ground. Got tired of them pulling out and moving around, so I decided to come up with a better solution. [img:left] [/img] Breaks down into 3 pieces: Total cost: $15

Looks cool. That will work good but if you target larger fish it prob wont hold very well. I use a 10inch piece of pvc pipe, 2 hose clamps, and a 2 1/2 ft piece of rebar that i drive in the ground

I'm not fishing with surf gear and not looking to catch 30#s. It's all glued with PVC pipe cement, so if I tie into something really big, it's going to break a rod or the pvc pipe before it breaks one of those bonds. But, if I get good enough to catch something the size of what's in your sig, I'm going to be needing something with rebar!! (and some heavier gear too)

Yeah, thought about U-bolts or tent stakes. Also thought about adding some sand in the arms for extra stability, but that would add extra weight that sort of defeats the purpose. Need to do some field testing but it's amazingly stable and strong - tested it with 50lbs. of weight - didn't topple, and the joints held it just fine.

I may just buikd something like that to attach to the inside of the tailgate of my truck. That would be great at Rollover and the likes. I can just back the truck up to the water and sit in the bed.
The only thing dumber than a fish is a fisherman.

What about a couple of sandbags placed over the arms that balance on the the ground? Though they are kind of weighty and you're trying to avoid that.

Yeah, that would do it, but they don't travel very well I'm pretty surprised - the thing looks lightweight (and it is as far as weight), but it's very sturdy. It doesn't topple easily. Tested it with a 50lb. weight and was fine. Today I had something on (lost it) that doubled the pole right over (heavy action bass rod) and no issues. Thought about filling the tubes with sand if I find that it's an issue - so, similar idea.

No need for weight on it, just make sure your drag is loose enough to pull the line by hand easily. Tighten the drag when you pick it up or when you see it bouncing. I've had fish to 25lbs with my rods just laying on the ground. Its all in the drag.

then too you could just take some empty bags and fill them up with water when you get to your destination to weigh it down...cool setup you got there!
