Anyone ever fished this lake or know anything about it? Other than it is a private lake in Quitman. Thinking about buying a lake house there and haven't ever heard anything about it.

Jody Kea has some property there, he and I were just talking about Lil Lake last Friday. He told me, you have to be a property owner to have a boat on the lake..
I do know, there are some really BIG FISH in it, seen the mounts on the wall. Big !!! Look Jody up on the forum, PM him for more info..

Thanks Red. The listing says this lake is the "Bass Captial of East Texas". Didn't know if they were trying to "reel" in the bass anglers or if it really is a big bass lake. I'll look up Jody.

Huge and numbers too. I fished it a few times when my uncle had a place out there. We killed 'em on the dam with junebug culprits, must of been almost 20 years ago though. The buddy I was fishing with at the time tried to go out there again a few years back, he was only fishing from a float tube said within the first 20 minutes they had two fish in the 5lb range but within 30 minutes the guy who watches the lake ran them off.

Brings back a lot of memories - I pretty much grew up on that lake. Fishing wasn't that strong between 1976 and 1987 - had some good years but had some lake management issues. Once the older generation began passing on and the Dallasites begin to buy vacation homes there - the lake management might have gotten better. There used to be 1 or 2 natural springs that drained into the headwaters down towards Sissy Spacek's parents old place.
Try sneaking into Club lake back behind Lydia -- there should be some nice fish in there.

Don't have to look to hard. I'm always around LOL I have been fishing that lake since I was 3 yrs old. 41 Now and wishing I could get my boat out there again. There are some TOADS on that lake and if you have a chance to get property there JUMP before it gets away. There are a lot of people that have property there now that don't really fish much. Hardly ever more than a couple of boats there on any weekend. The lake used to be managed very well when Mr. Compton was involved and has gotten a little tougher since he passed a while back. But you can still have a 30 to 40 lb 5 fish day with a lot of 3 to 5 lbers thrown in. During the summer months around 4:00pm til dark you can actually wear out a rattle trap in one outing. I can go on and on about that 100 acre private lake... Big Bass on the lake is 14 and some change...

My science project one year was actually doing a lake water analysis of the feeder creeks, springs, and main lake water of Lydia. I've seen it drained to almost nothing (they used to do it every 10 years or so) and I've seen it frozen all the way across my grandparents cove (walk out past the dock - stupid thing to do).

What about lately? I am retiring and want a quiet place to bass fish with some fishing activity tho. I have my eye on a place now that would be perfect if the fishing is at least "good"

My family still owns a house out there and sometimes you can catch a few. Lake needs to be fished more. I have not fished it in a long time

Thanks. I failed to mention that I was speaking of largemouth only.

That's all I really cared to fish for. But there have always been plenty of perch and crappie to keep the pan full (catfish too). I can stand on our dock and catch 4 or 5 in an hour or so then I stop LOL.. Usually have something else I am supposed to do..
