I would like to start a thread about Bachman Lake. It is the closest lake to my abode, and I have caught some quality LMB there. I know a couple of the guys that fish the lake and creek and would really like to hear from anyone else that enjoys this underrated urban fishery. I am particularly interested in the crappie anglers and the carp prospects. I read a thread about a carp fishing get together this weekend, and am interested in what kind of gear to bring, having never caught carp on purpose before. I'm a big fan of ultralight and fly fishing. Hopefully this thread will have legs and we can get something going like the other long lived threads on this forum.
Thanks in advance for your support,
LC

WRJ - thanks for the reply. I have had most of my good luck at the north edge of the dam southwest of the rec center in spring. I have seen very large fish in the creek that I have hit on the head with various presentations that could not give a da#n. Have you tried it at night ( I realize that a concealed carry .45 is probably required)?

LocusCaeruleus, If you can, you would really do well to meet this group this weekend. Just from what I see here every week they get results and are very generous with their knowledge.
I wish I could come.
Good Luck!

Done. When I complete my obligations Sat AM I will head out with my 8'6" medium action rig, a lot of ignorance, but plenty of enthusiasm.

Been out to Bman couple times over the past year. have hung out near the creek opening to the lake. have been bass fishing each time and the only thing I have found halfway reliable is a 6-7 inch watermelon/green senko. I've found the bass are more active in mid morning than afternoon or evening. All the rest of my lures havent produced a thing. the bass just seemed to play with my topwater but never bite
the brush pile at the center pylon on the bridge was productive last year but they removed it so i hope it accumulates again. I also noticed they pulled the weeds out of the creek entrance to the lake which was productive although I left a small fortune in snagged lures there.
as for other fishing I cant speak from personal experience. the bachman kid was out there one day and ripped out about 50 perch in the same time it took me to snag two bass and lose 5 lures. hear crappie fishing is excellent too. Havent ventured to the dam yet. my kevlar vest has been at the dry cleaners

Bradsvice, you are a man of many words, but the essence seems to be that one must be willing to sacrifice lures to the Bachman fish-god. It is yet a good investment, no?

I started fishing this lake anout a year ago and caught a few bass out of it. Spinner bait and a oft plastic worms worked for me. I seen alot of crappie in the creeks and some big [censored] carp jumping out the water... Great place to fish and close to home..

I met the carp brigade out at Bachman today - super nice guys with tons of info. Their enthusiasm was contagious. I'm already wondering where I'm gonna store three twelve-foot rods.
