i thought bobber has only one movement when a fish bites, sink!!! but with jigs under a bobber, it's little different based on my experience.. i know i should hook when it sinks, but what about other situations..

1) bobber moves side way...

2) bobber lay down...

3) a little tip movement...

Another question is, do multiple jigs(2,3,4) really increases the chance of catching crappie or the opposite?

Thanks...

I use one jig per bobber. It lets me really "read" the bite. If you see something "different" with the bobber, you need to set the hook. Remember these are crappie and your not fishing the Bass Masters, a steady pull will do the trick.

Hands down fishing with a jig and bobber is my favorite way of catching crappie!

as a general rule, once you see a change of movement in the bobber, i.e. sideways, flat, down, give it a good second and allow the fish to really take it in their mouth before setting the hook. sometimes a fish will bump the jig, causing brief movement, without actually committing to biting it.

So, I'm new at fishing for Crappie, and have a few questions about bobber fishing for them.

I fish from shore, so knowing the water depth is all guesswork. Given that, is it a good idea to figure out what the depth is by increasing the depth until the bobber lays down, and then working back up until you find the fish??

Does it make any sense to use a spreader and fish with two jigs so they're spaced about 2' apart?

Do you twitch the rig every minute or so, or more often?

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting on the water looking like a darn fool.

i havent tried it, but i watched a guy tie a chem stick probably cost a dollar or so, anyways he tied it to his line above the hook probably a couple feet above it and he said it works awesome from the bank during the spawn. i have never tried it but it is cheap.

Only problem with the chem sticks - they are only good for about one trip, then you have to replace the little tube that goes inside. Could get expensive if you use them a lot.

Good questions.
1-bobber moves to the side.
..The fish is swimming away with it or pushing it.
..Pull slowly until you feel the fish then set the hook.
2-Bobber lays down.
..Fish has picked it up. Set the hook.
3-Bobber is tipsy. Fish are smelling or rubbing it.
..Wait 'till it goes down or up.
4-Multiple jigs are good to find the depth of the fish.
..Good for bridges and timber.

That is a great way to find the bottom and the fish depth.
Right now is the only time of year where you will see crappie actually pick it up from the bottom.

When after bobber fishing, does anyone else see the cork going under...in their sleep? I'm serious.

If the bobber does anything other than what I make it do, I set the hook.

same for me. Plus I prefer a weighted bobber thats 1"-1.5" because i feel it gives me more control of the jig and I can sort of just rock the jig in place without actually pulling it in closer to me if I feel it is in the area of a fish
