Even though the temperature will be in the 30's tonight the calendar says it's spring and summer's not far off. Waist deep wading the shorelines of our area bays with a bucket full of croakers is just plain fun to me. The last couple of years I've used a 7' medium action rod for this application. I'm thinking of going to a 7'6" with a little lighter action this year. What is your favorite rod length and action for chunkin' croaks? Do any of the rod companies make a "croaker rod"?

Thanks

I am old school. I always like more of a parabolic action. I want to feel a fish fight. Its one of the reasons I don't bass fish. Most of those guys have never fought a fish longer than 5 seconds. That ain't fishin!!

American Rodsmith makes a 'croaker smoker' which I believe is their intended purpose.

GLoomis P8400 GLX, sends free lined croaker to where no croaker has been before. Seriously, this rod chucks them farther than any other I have ever owned, but even a great "croaker" rod isnt worth it with out a decent reel to handle the lighter wieght casting.

I would never use a GLX loomis rod in the gulf again. I've seen them snap crackle and pop into a gazillion pieces before. Yes they are great rods for their sensitivity, but you give up alot for it IMHO. Besides, what tha hell do you need a $300-$400 rod for when all you want to do is throw freaking croaker? Use a damn uglystick that'll never break on you. Once again JMO

If you want a rod that has a great reputation and is backed up by a great warranty go with the GLoomis LR842 or LR844. That's what I use. I feel more confident with a GL2 or GL3 blank in the gulf than a GLX.

I'm sure any one of those Loomis rods would be killer.

It's a blast to be able to feel that croak get real excited about 2 seconds before you feel the "toonk" of a nice size trout hitting your bait.

I've always used allstar platinum 7ft mh teamed up with a curado 200hdsv, can cast that thing almost 100 yards into the wind with a croaker, and bait suspender.
