I have been watching this kid, and I know it's really early, but he's only 19 and fishin Elite Series. He finished 50th at the Delta and yesterday he weighed in over 19lbs to put him in 15th place at Clear Lake, which to my understanding is his 1st time to fish those California waters. Do we have the next KVD on the radar?

Nope. I think the next KVD will be JVD. I dont, not yet anyway, only time will tell. Lots can catch the fish, but KVD is about instincts, reading water and picking up small things and decision making based on those, intensity and a drive to win. JVD has a good teacher but those other things that make KVD so good cant just be taught, you have them or you dont. I really dont see those in JVD yet, or anyone for that matter.

KVD was once 19 y/o and he wasnt fishing with the best at that time Maybe not "the best" but not far from it. KVD turned pro in 1990 at the age of 22. He dominated the local stuff around Kalamazoo as a teenager, and won the Michigan BASS Federation Angler of the Year twice, before turning pro. Those federation guys are pretty serious competition, especially for a teenager. At age 23, he became the youngest ever to win the now Toyota Tundra Angler of the Year title and went on to rack up 23 consecutive in the money finishes. JVD also dominates all his local stuff and has won at higher levels, as well. He's intense and dedicated just like his uncle, and has a wealth of experience and info to draw upon. He also has insane instincts and skills. Kevin wants him to get a degree first but JVD thinks he's ready, so time will tell. I wouldn't bet against him, though. By the way, I haven't heard anyone state that JVD IS the next KVD, Only that he will be. Again, those are some big shoes to fill so only time will tell.

I'm not saying that at this point he's up there with KVD, but he does have a real good start. If he does well and his career gets rolling then I think some guys better watch out. He did win the Junior championship, and although those are "snot noses", what else could he have done at 14?

22.1 today has him sitting in 5th. Pretty impressive for just his second elite tourney and a mid pack finish in his first. Being the next KVD is a stretch but a helluva start for a 19 year old kid for sure. He put a whoopin on KVD this week.

Way better and more focused than I was when I was 19. That's for sure.

This kid has alot of upside and you can tell he has the it factor. So does IKE and he is no KVD either. We shall see its good to see young guys like Roy fun to watch them grow

I was at a Archery shop talking to Jack Hains, 1975 Bass Master Classic Winner, some time around KVD's second year on tour. His words about KVD "they havn't told that boy yet that he's gonna have a bad tournament". I don't think KVD ever got the message. He was kicking hiney then and he is still kicking hiney.
