Planning to head down in the last 2 weeks of May. Haven't really decided what area yet, but expecting either Galveston or Rockport/Port A. Looking for recommendations on guides (both locations) for a bay trip to get some pointers on where to fish, what to fish with, catch a few, etc.
Also, if anyone has some past accounts of the general fishing in May and/or what to expect, feel free to comment.

what kind of boat will you hauling? May is when it's really starting to heat up down there in Port-A!!! Come June-July IT'S REALLY ON!!! Knowing what kind of fishing/boat/gear you are planning on taking will help with tips.

For a Guide in Rockport, go with Jack Culberson, retired firefighter. You will have a ball. Website is 4alarmfishing.com

He can show you where to go

OK ....... Get you a map & look for "Red Fish Bay" "Hog Island" "Estes Flats" all are between Rockport & Aransas Pass & Port-A. This is all good water to fish. Look for "traylor island" "mud island" & "california hole". You can also look to the opposite side of the causeway from Aransas Pass as "Estes Flats" & look for "Dagger & Ransom Island" there are some good potholes around there that ussually hold some nice reds, specks & slot blacks.

As for bait......... I'm a live bait man myself. I've never had much luck using artificials. Finger Mullet, Piggy Perch with Carolina rig or free lined. Live shrimp under popping corks or free lined.

If you happen to make it to the ICW & Jetties at first light & find calm water there will probably be Bull Reds, Spanish Macks & possibly Kings & Tarpon just beyond or cruising the Jetties................ TIGHT LINES!!!!! And post a report when you return!!!

Lots of good guides in the rockport area, not too familiar with galveston. If planning on fishing rockport, go to fishingrockport.com, or rockportfishing.com, one or the other, there are many guides, that post reports almost every other week, that will give you an idea of results, location, and species being caught. Also depends on what species you are after. Some guides down there stick to mainly a certain species for a certain time of year. For the best time and results i would rec. capt. Mike Collins out of rockport. He is not on that website, and for a reason. He books up very fast, but its worth it. You will most likely go out in a air boat to untouched back lakes, and have the best redfish expierience anyone could have in a lifetime. Although he is not the one to go with if you are trying to find spots to fish, unless one has an air boat his spots are impossible to get to.
