I took a vacation day today for no other reason than to go fishing. I started around 8:30 this morning and ended around 2:30pm. I started throwing a spinnerbait and lipless crank to try to locate the fish, nothing. Then I tried throwing a deeper crank and nothing. Then I started throwing a jig and t-rig into heavy cover, nothing. I also threw weightlees trick worm and senko, nadda I tried shallow open water, shallow water with heavy cover, deep cover, deep open water, I was convinced by 2:00pm that there was no fish in the lake! I have been at this every weekend for a few weeks now and only one dink to show for it. I asked another guy in a glass boat (I have buster type boat) and he was able to tell me the water temp, it was 61. I don't know what it is, maybe it is me, maybe they just aren't biting good yet, maybe I am fishing the wrong stuff, but I can't buy a bite. I am fishing in Lake Waco if that helps any.

ok my rant is over, any help is MUCH appreciated!

Cliff

It seems like you tried about everything you could. Never fished that lake, but it sounds like the fish just aren't feeding heavily yet. As the water warms and the weather gets more consistent, I bet you're going to have some great trips soon.

No matter the preception you might get here, bass fishing can be frustrating.

Barometric Pressure and Fishing

High Pressure, Clear skies
Fish slow down, find cover or go to deeper waters.
Slow down lures and use baits more attractive to fish. Fish in cover and in deeper waters.

Rising Pressure,Clearing or improving
Fish tend to become slightly more active
Fish with brighter lures and near cover. Also fish at intermediate and deeper depths.

Normal and stable Pressure,Fair
Normal fishing
Experiment with your favorite baits and lures.

Falling Pressure,Degrading weather
Most active fishing
Speed up lures. Surface and shallow running lures may work well.

Slightly lower Pressure,Usually cloudy
Many fish will head away from cover and seek shallower waters. Some fish will become more aggressive.
Use shallow running lures at a moderate speed.

Low Pressure,Rainy and stormy
Fish will tend to become less active the longer this period remains.
As the action subsides, try fishing at deeper depths.

+ 1 on everything GGRNR said. Additionally I'll bet you're fishing too fast. Make those lures move slooooooow. Even the crank baits.

Weather. There was a front that moved through. plus they are still in the deep gettin it on. Give it a few more weeks and they will be in the shallows spawning.
