Is anyone else a braid freak like me. I just love the stuff. Yeah it’s strong but it’s the sensitivity that I love. I’m just starting to tie leaders on.

i agree that sufix performance braid is the best line for the money right now. Unless you have money and can go with the best braid available, DAIWA SAMURAI BRAID, then sufix performance braid is the next best braid.

I dont think that spiderwire lasts very long when comparing it to suffix or power pro. I agree that suffix is the best unless you go up to samurai braid. Suffix is #1!

Just didnt like the stiffness of it and had to many problems with backlashes that i just couldnt pick out. And yes my reels are adjusted correctly. Power Pro i can throw a mile or two all day and nest up maybe once or twice. Just more confident with it.

I'm a braid freak as well and I can say I have tried most of them. I haven't tried the Samarai yet but Suffix is far and away better than the rest. I have some Suffix 50# on one of my saltwater reels for two years now and it won't give up. I keep thinking I should change it but nothing has broken off yet on that line. I have PowerPro on some other reels and it looks a lot worse after a few uses than the Suffix has after years. I'm not saying PowerPro is bad but it doesn't cast near as smooth and far or hold up near as well as the Suffix. I only tried the Power Pro because it was so much cheaper than the Suffix ($10 less for 300yd spool). The only reason I still buy PowerPro, the colors. The red and yellow are nice. Unfortunately, almost a week ago I got broke off at SeaWolf by a bullred after he spooled me for 200 yards of 30# PowerPro. He took off with my line like I left the drag open. I gave it two clicks of drag and it snapped. I wish he had picked up my Suffix setup. I would have had one more bullred to my name.

Crankbait,

You’ve managed to get a really good thread going. Nice!

I have not used the Suffix Performance Braid, but I’m anxious to give it a try.

I’ve used Daiwa Samurai 30, and 40 pound test braid. Here’s my thoughts on it.

• Doesn’t work well on my Shimano baitcasting reels. The line ‘bites’ into itself quite badly.

• Works very well on my Abu Mörrums. This is because Mörrums have the Triple-Cross level wind which lays the line across the line below it.

• Samurai is with out question the best handling braid that I’ve used to date.

• Samurai has very little line noise as compared to every other braid that I’ve used except perhaps Berkley Whiplash.

• MY BIG BEEF: In the pound tests that I’ve used I can snap the line when casting a lure. Samurai has poor shock strength in the pound tests that I’ve used†.

†It could very well be that in the higher pound tests that Samurai has enough shock strength to avoid snapping on casts. I can’t say though as I’ve not used the higher tests.

I’m really looking forward to giving the Suffix Performance Braid a whirl, but I’m going to go with 65 pound test or better.

It does. Walmart only carries it in moss green, but you can order the hi vis yello from most tackle sites that carry it.

Love me some braid. Power pro in 40/50 is my favorite for baitcast worming/general duty, 65 for frogs and pitching. Have found that I get fewer windknots with 10-14 lb Fireline on my spinning gear. Totally don't understand why some people hate the superlines. Honestly, the strength is the least of its advantages in my opinion. It's the sensitivity and casting distances that keeps me coming back.

I kinda wonder about this stuff. Might help with the shock strength problem you're talking about TFP. Anyone tried this? I might try it when my current power pro needs replacing. Maybe in a year or two. Still have one all mono combo for crankbaits, maybe I could try it there.

It comes in two awesome high vis colors. There is a yellow and red they call neon fire I think. They're both awesome with flouro leader. I am trying to find a place I can get the 65# test in all three colors on large spools though. No one has the big spools in the stores. Let me know if some has them. Oh and Suffix has coupons you can print from their website for $6 and $10 off.

The 'Stretchy Braid' (Dang! I can't help but hear that in the voice of Nacho Libre crazy) might be the ticket, but the one of the big reasons for fishing braid in the first place is that is so low stretch.

Love suffix. Wish they still made the 40 pound test. Didn't care much for the cheaper spiderwire braid. I've found something I like, so I'm sticking with it. Great for worming/pitching/flipping. I prefer mono for cranking however.

If you love the light stuff (20-50lb) then you would really love the big stuff (80lb +) You no longer have line bury itself on heavy pulls. You break swivels, weights, and leader line...hardly ever break the braid.

I was a Power Pro fan for a long time. Still like it. I hate Spiderwire braids (weak, stiff, and short lived.) The Stren Braid was good, just too limp for what I was trying to use it for. It was extremely difficult to push it thru slip corks. My PP has been replaced though with Tug 0' War. Better color, better price.

Sufix Performance is the best I've found for use on a baitcaster! Haven't tried them all, but it exceeds PowerPro and Spider Wire Stealth by a wide margin for Froggin. Love that 50# Sufix for Froggin! I've had it spooled on one of my baitcasters for going on 3 yrs and see no reason to change it out yet. Yes, it fades like the rest, but casts smoother and maintains shape better with far less fraying in my experience. Plus, I've had no issues with knot slippage using either an 8 wrap Uni-knot or a Double Palomar.
Can't wait to try the new Sufix 832 coming out this fall that won best line at I-Cast 2010.

Suffix is as rough as sand paper and don't cast as far as Power Pro in my opinion. It also is a very light shade of green and fades out very quickly.

Ive been staying with braids for the past 10 years.
I just love the sensitivity, little stretch, and the thin gauge compared to monos and flouros.

I use Spiderwire stealth 15# and never really had a problem with it. I did have some backlashes before, but it was the result of me forgetting to adjust my reel after changing lures.

this may sound lame, but I gave the Zebco omniflex braid a shot on a spinning reel (20 pound test) and it worked beautifully. May have to try the 40 pound test for baitcasters.

I've been using braided line since May of 1993. I read about Randy Dearman winning at Rayburn, and ordered a spool of Mason Braided Spectra. I immediately saw the potential of the line, and altered my handling technique to adapt to the characteristics of braid. I have very few problems with it, and I have it on 10 out of 12 rods in my boat right now. I've tried most of the lines out there (not all), and agree that Suffix is the best of the median priced lines. I have been buying line from a manufacturer in Asia for awhile, and it has been quite good. It is a 6 strand braid, and is pretty smooth all around, with a small diameter. I take decent care of my line, and I have reels with line that is many years old. I test it all once in a while, and it is still sound. And that is one of the reasons I like it so much.

I tie a fluoro or mono leader on my line most of the time. I use a Uni knot or a blood knot, depending on what combo of lines I am using. Tying the knot carefully is everything.

Anyone try the SpiderWire invisibraid? The white braid? I bought some when it was one sale and I didn't see where the "Invisi" part came in... It looked hi-vis to me.

BRAID is NOT to be obsessed! It has a purpose. If you are pitching in the wood or in the weeds, this is the ideal line.
Every type line has its purpose so don't get obsessed with just one type or even line wieght. Emple: mono for topwater because it floats. Flouro for cranks and plastics for its sensitivity. Maybe I'm being too elementary, but I guarantee someone just learned something! As for my braid, I use the new Sufix 832 and POwer Pro (after Ive broke it in.) The 832 is great straight outta the box! For my spinning reels I use the new Berkley Nanofil. Its not a braid, its not a flouro. Its a class of its own!

I have the Hivis Yellow PPro. I haven't used it because of the color. (So, why did I buy it.) I know! Thuth is, I bought it for night fishing but keep forgetting to spool it up. For those that do have YELLOW, consider this: Take a black or green magic marker and make dashes up the line for as far as you can stand it. This will camo the line for those of you that tie str8 to the bait. I do this on the green line as well for added confidence. For those that use leaders, a marker will stain FL but will wash off mono. Great little trick!

Can't go wrong with Power Pro or Sufix, in my opinion. Don't like the waxy coating on Power Pro, but it seems to wear off quickly, so it really isn't a factor. Both are good, quality products that are worth the money.

As for the high-vis lines, just try a leader of invisible flouro or mono 6-8 feet long (learn to tie the right line-to-line knot) and you are good to go.

Spiderwire braid used to be round. When I found out they were changing around 4 years ago I bought several extra spools of the good stuff. I have now run out except for a couple spools of 50 lb.

I use Power Pro now but mostly on light set ups. I have not done much comparing.

I don't like POWER PRO ,but i like FIRELINE SMOKE 4LB. and SPIDERWIRE ULTRACAST green and yellow 6lb.,10lb.(not ULTRACAST invisi braid or fluorocarbon braid, just green & yellow).

For my fishing on the bank in salt water i don't need stronger line.

SPIDERWIRE ULTRACAST is IMO one of the best braid(price /quality).
I was fishing with braid+fluorocarbon leader for over 10 years and never have wind knot.
I am fishing just with spinning reels and artificials bait.

Is there an issue when the braid color fades?

Sufix Performance Braid is a Great all-around line!
PowerPro Braid is good but casting suffers on my spinning reels!
Braid Obsessed!
