My friend Gary has opened a new tackle and bait shop (bass on tackle) on 830 in the Citgo parking lot on the way to the last free boat ramp lake Conroe has left. He is in total operation now and has crappie minnows, trout line minnows, worms and plastics too. If he dont have what you need let him know and he will try to get it for you. Be sure to mention my name and where you herd about his place. He is a great guy and really knows all about fishing. He is going to be starting some crappie and catfish tournaments soon as well as bass tournaments. He is planning on having the lakes only certified scale so we can weigh our big fish. His place is one of a kind on Lake Conroe. Go check him out and tell him I said hi.

I have seen his place there. What tackle does he keep in stock? And if I had a perticular brand that usually has to be ordered, would he keep it in stock for me?

Stowaway has certified scales.

Where is the free boat ramp? Is it a dirt launch?

This is a link to where the tackle shop is on 830. I drove by there yesterday and they were in business.

It is a divided two lane concrete ramp. During recreational boater season it is nothing short of a disaster around that ramp. Terribly frustrating to watch the amateurs, with no ramp courtesy, try to launch and retrieve. Wish the TPWD would upgrade the facilities. There is plenty of room for 6-8 launch lanes and better parking and lighting. Too much to ask for some more docks and a breakwater?

In my opinion, if you have the extra $10 to spare, just pay to launch at a marina. Not worth dealing with the idiots at the public ramps.

Here is a google map link to the launch:

FM 830 ramp. Sometimes you can get a free breaking out of your window. Well, not really free if they get something.

I visited Gary yesterday morning on the way to the 830 ramp. Good guy that needs our support.

We were told yesterday that the scales at Stow a Way were not certified, so someone needs to check on that.

I personally have never had a problem with the launch. Nothing ever stolen from me there and I leave the trailer spare in the open bed of the truck. Just lucky I guess.
