Water Temp: 46-47
Clarity: Stained
Wind: NW 10-15
The cold weather we had yesterday brought snow and cooler water temps to the lake. We have had some warmer spells that have activated some of the pre-spawn areas, but as a whole, we have not had the water warm up to the level needed to really trigger and hold a good pre-spawn bite. Looking at last years weather archives, we were already having 80 degree days and the fish were already on beds this time last year. Even with the new lunar phase, the cold winter we are experiencing is going to put everything on hold.
As of today, the majority of the fish are still deep. There are some early movers that pushed shallow and into pre-spawn areas that are catchable, but it takes a warming trend to really get these fish active. Red Rat-L-Traps and T-rigged Senkos are working well in 6-12' staging areas along grass points and guts near channel swings. The most consistant bite has been deep. It has been working on the warm days as well as the cold ones. Brushpiles located near pre-spawn areas in 18-21' are holding the best numbers of fish. Drop shots rigged with finesse worms and Football Jigs are working well around these areas.
We are just around the corner from spring. With the way the cold weather is lasting, it is only going to take one good warm snap along with some warm nights to really get things going. We are only 18 days from daylight savings day. The full moon is this weekend, look for some major changes in the next couple of weeks!
Hope this helps!
