Sam Rayburn water level has jumped up a foot this week to 163.70. The water has started to get really stained in the mid lake area.

This week we got 4 to 6 inches of snow! That really cooled the water down for the weekend making the bite even tougher for everyone. Before the front hit we had a few fish that had moved up and were just starting to show a little interest. They had started biting some of the soft plastic worked around the grass. Senko’s, Wacky Worm and Baby Bush Hogs pulled over the grass and off the edges have been getting a few bites. We’ve been catching a few fish off the grass line, off some of the points, on Carolina rigged worms and brush hogs. It’s been slow, taking a lot of soaking, to get them to pick up. The bite has been really light with some fish picking up the tail of the baits and moving off really slow making it hard to feel the bite. This is when you have to be on your toes. You can’t afford to miss any bites right now. The trap bite has been almost nonexistent with only a very few short hits . This coming week the weather looks to be warming up some which should help things out. Hopefully the fish will get a little more active and start chasing the trap some and put thing back to normal here on “Big Sam”. It’s just not normal to not be catching tons of fish on traps, but that’s how it’s been this year.

Remember the Sharelunker Program entries started on October 1 and run thru April 30th. If you haven’t heard, it encourages anglers who catch a 13 - pound- plus largemouth bass to lend or donate it to the TPWD for spawning purposes. There are some great benefits doing this and one of them is that the angler receives a fiberglass replica of the bass. There is a 24- hour pager at 1-888-784-0600 Check out the Program rules at their site along with the Benefits. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/visitorcenters/tffc/sharelunker/

Crappie; The Crappie are still slow because of all the rain and fresh water we have had in the last few weeks. Between the fronts and generally strange weather we have had there are usually a few days that the wind dies down. That is the perfect time to get out and enjoy the natural beauty of our lake.

The new pontoon has plenty of room for everyone so get your group booked for a spring crappie trip.

God Bless
