No. Might try late March and April for bank fishing when the shad start spawning for that. Right now the fish are deeper with this cold spell unless we get some warm weather for a few days to push them back shallow. There are some guys on Lavon that catch some good ones from the bank at times in the winter, but they are usually looking for a good wind blowing the shad into the shallow timber.

We catch them shallow or off the bank at Texoma all winter. You just have to be patient because you can go looking for them they have to come to you.

Probably relates to water temp during certain times of the day as well on when they follow the shad up shallow. Did you guys catch those fish shallow on Saturday Tim? If so, I dunno how to explain that one with the consistent cold we had that day. You did a helluva job out there on a day like that regardless.

Good blues can be caught from the banks all year long. Of course July & August can be extremely tough but those months are tough period. It kinda requires learning the lake from a bank standpoint looking for places with deep,mid-depth and shallow access. Putting wind in your face is almost always your best bet for the shad getting blown your direction. Also, learning where creek channels lie and where to throw your bait to get in them or close helps alot. Pretty much everything else is the same as a catman in a boat except the surf rods and no drifting. Fresh bait, understanding seasonal behavior and the will to work for them from the bank can pay off. Getting on the waders in the winter to hit those sweet spots and hiking with all your gear can be a pain but can reward. Sometimes their are spots in parks or near boat ramps that can end up great without really having to work at all. Here's a 45lb caught last week concentrating on a creek/river channel after alot of rain:
