I just read something very interesting....

For the state to stock those lakes with reds or any other fish for that matter a portion of the property has to be open to the public. Therfore, if TT would like reds or any other fish stocked into those lakes by the state there will have to be areas open to the public!

Also, if TT would like the help of the game wardens to help police those lakes once again the lakes have to open to the public.

TT can charge fees for using the lakes or services BUT they can not lock down the lakes to "members only" if they do so they loose the benefits from the state. So, no worries about the lakes closing and going to "members only"....

This all boils down to how much are you willing to pay to fish at these lakes??

Change takes time so don't beat them up too much until they get their feet wet. No one likes change but its in the process!!

Hope to see the lakes come around nicely and turn into a "better" place to take family and kids.

Not all that funny when you get to the ramp early in the a.m. and the urge hits you, and you make it to the restroom and all the toilets are over flowing and carp on the seat and walls and floor and not even any paper which is the least of the problems.

Anyway, it didn't happen often but when it did, it wasn't good!

carp on the seat and walls and floor

I wish it was 'carp' , Jimbo.

District 3 Councilwoman has requested a review of the contract from CPS officials and the mayor.

If any of you are out there in the next few days, take pics of the fish bins if they are not being cleaned out.

I doubt if the Calaveras/Braunig will change immediately, but when they really open for business..that's when there will be big changes made. I am wondering if they will preserve the kayak/jetski area down by the dam at calaveras ..that has worked out well. As for the ramps, I imagine thay will stay open to the public. If CPS was looking out at all for the little man, there would be a stipulation in the contract with TT on the use of the ramps & fees. Do you think CPS had the customer/fisherman's interests in mind when they drew up the contract ?

Roger, that is what I am fishing for in the contract. I was assured all along that they would keep the fishery open. I volunteered and asked to be on the RFP committee and/or included in the analysis of the bids, but CPS turned me down as an outsider.

CPS is the 800 pound Gorilla and they are only interested in power. Right now, they are hurting. The SA Mayor today called for two of the CPS Board members to resign over the nuclear cost cover-up. The GM as already resigned and two other execs are suspended. I have asked the politicos to examine the contract and determine if CPS gave away the public rights to the lakes. The City Council is asking CPS to explain what they have done.

It is important to determine the way that this private RV timeshare company is planning on running the parks and force them to make the necessary adjustments early on while we have this CPS vulnerability. If we wait, it will become increasingly more difficult to deal with TT.

I want positive changes for the lakes. I know that it means higher prices and less public access, and ultimately a better, cleaner and more controlled recreational environment, but this is as much of a question of control as anything else. My goal is to keep the voice of the fishing public important and significant in setting the new procedures for these lakes. By privatizing these lakes without input from its stakeholders, CPS has essentially threatened my favorite recreation. I will see what kind of impact we can make early to keep some control.

I hope it will pay off, if it works. Otherwise, I will find another windmill to fight...it's in my Roswell Alien blood.

Excellent ! It is hard for me to believe that Mayor Castro & the city council knowingly shut out 80% of the southside from using the lakes. These lakes were bought & paid for by CPS customers of SA & neighboring communities. That's the fact!! CPS may have really stepped in something again ! I wish we knew the contents of the contract..hard to protest something when your not sure of the facts. AS you said, it's hard to undo something after it's implimented. I've got to think that this contract between CPS & TT in available to the public, under the "Freedom Of Information Act".

Wow I've been gone for a while and reading this is kind of scary. I'd hate to lose access to the lakes for fishing. I'm hoping things go ok and that the only changes are for the better of the lake. Fingers crossed!

Has anyone (who doesn't have an annual pass) been out there yesterday or today? It would be interesting to know if they were able to get in, and how much it cost.

Don, first off thanks for your continued hard work following up on this issue. Like you, I expect change for the better, ya I may have to pay a little more, but I'd do that. To this point I have assumed the contract contained wording that would guarantee public access. But, with the recent screw-up’s at CPS, who knows. If you get hold of a copy, I’d like to take a look at it as well. If there is anything I can do to help you with this possible fight, just let me know.

Went out to both lakes around noon. Very slow day with all the wind.

Braunig entry still shut down and entrance is free. About 40-50 bank fishermen there and two boats. Electricians changing the meter box and inspecting. Specia Plumbing truck at one of the restrooms doing something. One fish bin half full; One empty. Trash cans not overflowing.

Met the TT couple at Calaveras; nice folks. Entered with annual pass. Asked about the equipment to do the work...like emptying fish bins and trash. He stated that they were trying to get a fish emulsifier to reuse the remains and sell it to farmers. I asked what he was using to move the bins and he said his arms. I told him that we were really concerned about maintaining the public fishing spots. He said that they would be putting in some RV stations along the bank, but there would be places to fish along the bank. Very pleasant folks. Three boats in the water and a few bank fishermen with tents in the cold wind.

I do not have a copy of the TT contract yet, but the City Council person has requested it and I am filling out the necessary discovery paper this afternoon to use the open records act.

who cares about bass, the redfish are way more fun, if you want bass go to one of the MAAAAAAANNNNNY places around here to get them. Redfish are not that convenient unless driving 3 hours to the coast... Also...i have seen officers out there before within the past couple months, who knows what they did guess we'll never know... Just to clarify since you haven't been there in years.

i was thinking, they need a "manager" type person there on duty to keep the workers in check. With the old SARA I can't count how many times I've seen two people just sitting in the office it only takes 1 to collect money. Maybe a more efficient run park with less wasted paid hours could result in a better environment for all. sorry if i came across wrong fishingandhunting hopefully no hard feelings. Just been stressed over this ordeal LOL... Maybe after the dust settles at these lakes you'll be back out there fishing and ill see ya out there! Good fishing guys.

Guys, I temporarily locked this one up while I cleaned it up. There were some of you that got way off topic on this one and was dragging it down very quickly. This thread has a lot of good information and I would like to leave it open. If we see anymore racial attacks, inuendos, implications at all, it will be removed.
