Not me.. been fishing stock tanks and doing well.. right now I'm in Michigan fishing some before heading further north later this week to deer hunt.. unusual warm spell has the fish moving.. nothing to big yet but still very fun and great to be outdoors..

February after the first flood is usually when they show up. When the water hits about 53 degrees, IT IS TIME! you will catch scouts (5-8 inchers) in November through January, but the run usually starts 1st or 2nd week of February (in Dallas at least).

I'll hit the creek soon for crappie and continue fishing for crappie until late February. The fall rain has kept the lake and creek up and muddy but as soon as it clears up some I'm heading up the Yegua or Nails..

I would like to start a annual get together at Nails Creek State park where kayakers and other boaters gather for an orientation of the fishing opportunities in the creeks. Any volunteers to help me? I can get the pavilion for the day right next to the boat ramp.

I don't have a kayak or boat, but I'd like to meet some of the Somerville crew. Just let me know the time and place.

I'm thinking Saturday January 2, 2010 but I'll firm up the details after the next BVFF meeting. I hope to have speakers on various subjects like fishing, hunting, rules and regs, boating safety, Kayaking/canoeing etc. Also this will allow for everyone to meet the area Game Wardens, Park Rangers and staff. But the focus for the event will be on fishing the creeks for crappie and whitebass whether from the bank or from a boat.. The only cost is entrance to the park.

4 years ago I caught my first limit of whites at Newman's at the end of December. That was the earliest. I really want to walk the bank casting jigs to see if I can manage some slabs. Maybe drag the bass buggy down there and do it right. I love camping out there during the winter!!!

Walked Nails Creek on Wednesday after work and got soaked walking thru the tall grass. Walked to the horse trails and started fishing. Started at the bridge crossing working my way back towards the lake. Creek looks like its ready to come to life. It's up compared to last year this time. I fished for about 1 1/2 and had no hits. Saw plenty of wildlife. Need to get the boat going and hit the creek with Minnows to see if the crappie are closer to the mouth of the lake. IT'S THAT TIME BOY'S!

I think it's still a little early, but anytime now it should start to pick-up. If I recall right, two years ago on Dec 14th, is when "HL&S" started catching White Bass in Nails Creek.
