I've heard more negative things about TT than positive, although to be fair, people tend to exaggerate the negative.
I don't know, but I believe that the reason the right side of the park is closed is cause it is being renovated for RV camping. I believe that the west side of the park will be left open to the public but the east side will be restricted for MEMBERS ONLY. By leaving half the park open to the public, they can still have the lake stocked by TPWD. And the PUBLIC will be controlled by raising the entrance fee substantially.

Can't really say it would be a bad thing for them to raise rates and control access with better maintainance and security.

People got spoiled, and it was going down hill for a good while with all the litter and lack of respect for the facilities and attitudes toward other users of the park.

Try getting a good bank fishing spot and there's the guy with 20 rods and reels lining a big stretch of the shorline, and people actually would move in and crowd you out if you were in "their spot" and only had a couple of rods out.

Yep, maybe there is a silver lining in all of this! It is way overdue!

I can live with it if they allow access to ramps and cleaning facilities, and I don't mind paying a little more if it is kept clean and maintained.
I do wnder how this will affect the guides.

Yes less guides on the lake would be a good thing.. They wont throw back a fish everything is kept if it is legal.

They catch a lot of reds downrigging...I guess when a client pays 200.00 to catch fish, you don't catch & release anything.

I agree. It is a put and take lake. The state has stocked over 2 million reds since 2006 alone. True, they were fry and fingerling and not all lived long enough to be caught, but that is a large amount of fish. 3 or 4 million in the ten years before that. It takes over 270 caught a day to equal 100,000 a year. There has to be tons of reds in the lake. Stripers too.

I just wish they were easier to catch from the bank. Or that I had the bank to buy a boat.

I was planning to go today and get a pass since it's the last day. I called and was told that they decided this morning not to sell passes. I guess I shouldn't have waited.....

I mean why would someone take care of a a resource that makes them money that would be dumb. noidea. I just think the guides should only be able to keep 1 red over 28 per person there not good to eat that big anyways and people would be happy catching bigger fish and possible lake record.. I mean with the 6-7 guides now trolling the lake looks more like a boat parade going on. The lake isnt that big hooked.

So if you stay past the 8:00 P.M. closing time you will be charged another $4.00 instead of a 24 hr. pass.

If you are out in the boat past 8:00 P.M. and you return to the dock I would look for a nice little ticket on your windshield telling you that you must submit the additional $4.00 before you leave.

Not complaining, just wondering how long it's going to take the public to swallow these new rules, and there will probably be more for sure once they get their feet on the ground.

I can kind of picture it now!.....A little retired fella living there in the park, with a Yankee accent tooling around in his golf cart with a fat ticket pad and plenty of pencils.

TT has now signed a 15 year lease & has agreed to pay CPS 16% of gross income, yet SARA was running in the red. Where was all the money going ? I've got to think that TT has done their homework & they can see a profit margin. Do I smell a rat ??

Well it says CPS will put their share (16%) back into the parks.... The article does not mention the ramp fee at all....

I've asked that question for years roger, and I'm sure you remember the hey days when the lines were backed up past the stop sign and that was during the week.

Yep and very little done to improve the park.

I've noticed the nice offices for SARA and all the improvements to the downtown site over the years not to mention all those executive positions that paid pretty good wages.

Oh well, that's always been a sore spot with me, that they never ran it to benefit the people who paid those fee's over all those years, and thanks only to TPWD for making it worth while to go to those lakes, by keeping them well stocked which SARA didn't have anything to do with.

Anyway it will change and probably for the better in the long run.

you guys have been lucky on the not having to pay for a new day after midnight. fayette lake charges another day if you stay after midnight. of course they do not check every nite, sometimes you don't get the note on windshield until around 6am,so if you are gone before then you get by with a little leeway.

They will close at 8:00 p.m. so that means that in the summer with the daylight savings time you can get to the lake just before they close, which with the heat you wouldn't get there until later anyway, they charge you $4.00 then you will owe another $4.00 if you only fish a couple of hours or all night, and leave the next morning.

I know these people are Yankees but they better rethink those hours of operation, and this is south Texas, and it's still too hot at 8:00 p.m. in June, July, and August.

I wonder how they are going to handle the annual passes ? The article didn't mention the cost or if they will be discontinued.

I wonder if TT was ever advised about the lake water is actually recycled water. Not very appealing to someone who has payed a 3-4K membership fee. Swim in it, waterski.. not me!

Its about time a company that is in the business to make a profit take over the properties!! If you don't like the "new" rules then don't go... They have to start some where and they will make MORE rules to govern the property they now run!! If people can't follow the rules then they will pay the fines. There is a new sheriff in town and your just going to have to deal with the new rules!!

We live in a different world these days where everything is not going to be given to you without a price. Some one some where foots the bill. In the past CPS and SARA footed the bill... well now the people that use the park will foot the bill!! Get over it and just pay the fees if you use the parks!

not sure when's the last time you've been to calaveras...for a while now there has been only ONE guide on the lake most everyday, all day...the "boat show" is only when the fly-by-niters can can catch fish in the warmer months. If you think most those "guides" catch a ton of fish your sadly mistaken. And since the big redfish have a hard time living in the warmer months when all the "guides" are there i would hate to see them throwing back 28"+ dead redfish because they can only keep one. I think it will all be OK with these "guides" because most of them are rarely there. It doesn't make me the happiest guy in the world to see them slaying them, but it's legal so not much ya can do. cheers
