There was a post with some info on contacting someone to be put on a list to receive a survey regarding opening a public access to the lake, i sent an email to the address that was posted but have not had any response. Just curious if anyone knows anything new.

I would certainly appreciate information on Lake McQueeney. I lived on this lake back in mid 80's, and at that time worked for a marina on the water. It was widely known back then, the attempts to make it a private lake and slowly the public access has been sold off. After they bulldozed this marina and built a house, the new owners had put a locked double gate at the original "public ramp". This area with the help of GBRA (with plenty of field for a parking lot), would give access at the main part of the lake (least congested). Did this property get sold off or donated by the state, or owners simply lock us out ??? I'm pretty sure, the state has been called in several times during the floods and their grass control (hydrilla?)problem by property owners (Friends of Lake McQueeney)for assistance. I hope this forum with its many members can help get this lake back open to everyone. Thanks

I just e-mailed message to GBRA, in hopes to get response. I did check some minutes of meetings and didn't find anything definite. It is possible it is the "lake load" study.I did find the approximate location of the original public ramp (west of lot # 28248- Isle of view Rd.), but property lines don't show this to be a numbered lot. My guess would have to be,nobody is paying taxes on this parcel and should still be in the State's or GBRA's possession. I hope to hear from them soon. Thanks

Response from T.P&W, indicates there is no application for grants or studies for recreation (on lake McQueeney), as far as he knows ? I'll continue following up !

is it me, or does it seem like the public was pushed out by the homeowners on mcqueeney?

There are numerous people that bought property in the area in hopes to enjoy the lake and they happened to buy on the wrong side of the street. I looked on the "FOLM" site and it provided lots of phone numbers and e-mail addresses, but haven't contacted anybody to inquire on their stand on "public access" issue. They seemed to be most concerned with safety, erosion and irrigation. I did not find any information regarding access on their site either.

chad you are exactly right. i can't count the number of times someone on the lake has asked me where i live and when i tell them in NB they immediatly say that we shouldn't be there. this was when the marina was still open. the homeowners feel that it is their lake and noone else has a right to it. good luck with the friends of lake mcqueeney, i have contacted them a couple of times since the marina closed with no luck. they are the same folks that "own" that lake. the sad part is that once summer is over that lake is pretty much a ghost town.

I always wondered where a ramp was for this lake. I was looking through the catfishing section and saw a fishing guide that recently started fishing the lake. There is no ramp? How is a guide getting on the lake and making money on a lake the public cannot access? That makes no sense, there has to be a ramp open to the public somewhere. I would hate to think that you have to book a trip with a catfish guide to access "our" lake.

there are a ton of private ramps there so if you know the right people you can still get on it. what about the ski club? just curious as to what their membership runs?

rumor has it the ski club is $1800 a year. but i don't know this for a fact. as far as the guide out there . thats cliff hill 830-822-7064 , and as most of you know if there's a catfish out there cliff's going to find away to catch it. lol. we went out acouple of weeks ago and i got my pb blue. hell of a guy to spend the day with.

He just recently started guiding on the lake and he has a house out there??? I dont think so. I am sure he is a good guy but I want to catch bass for free on "OUR" lake, very nice shameful plug for him though. Where did you guys meet and launch from on your trip Toadkiller? You can keep paying him and I will get the green fish out of your way, I wont touch your catfish or carp I promise.

i'm not making money and i have a friend that lets me launch there, so choose your words carefully. this is about finding a public launch, not your bussiness if someone knows someone who lets them launch.

Good point, retracted and was intended for the state and the privatization of the lake. We pay too much money to TPWD to just ignore the public launch idea. Congrats on the survey connection fishinNB.

lol sounds like maybe your a little touchie on the subject, probably another guide trying to fall in cliffs footsteps. lol i never said he had a house on the lake for sure lol. and as far as the shamless plug yes i give him all the plugs i can. when there is somthing out there that works well for you , don't you tell people about it?

He he, no just an transported avid bass angler and heard about that lake being cutoff from the public...chaps my rear and does make me touchy. And for the record, you said maybe he has a house on the lake lol. You would have came out and said if he did for sure. Still need that secret ramp from you Toadkiller. Plug away, was giving you a hard time thats all.

The Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority can probably give you the best
answer to this one, because they would have all the legal & historical
facts. But here's what I know:

There is no public access to Lake McQueeney because all the land around
the lake is privately owned. To the best of my knowledge, it always has
been; however, up until a few years ago, there were a couple of private
businesses (a marina and an RV park) that were open to the public and
invited people to use their boat ramps. As I recall, the marina charged
a launch fee; I'm not sure about the RV Park. Anyone who was willing to
pay the fee could use the ramp; you didn't have to be a homeowner or a
member of any association.

Those businesses have closed; the properties were sold, and at present
there is no boat ramp or piece of the shore that is open to the public.
The lake itself is still public water, and the fishery there is
considered a public resource. TPWD biologists are not putting a much
effort into stocking or managing the Lake McQueeney fishery at this
time. However, Game Wardens are still obligated to enforce fishing
regulations. If they are getting access to the lake through private
land, it's really no different than having a warden come onto a
privately owned hunting lease to check people's licenses and deer tags.

A public lake with no public access is not an ideal situation. I
understand that the GBRA is trying to work out some kind of solution,
perhaps an agreement with one or more homeowners' associations, but
we've heard no news yet.
