Im thinking about building some brush piles under my boat slip to fish this winter. Will fish hold under there when it gets cold? Just wondering if it is worth my time?

It depends on how deep the water is. If they won't hold there in the winter they will at some point so I say go for it. The sooner you get them in the better.

If you need help coming up with some ideas of what to do let me know. I have been brushing out and building condos for a marina fishing barge foe the past year. It is fun when it starts paying off.

Yes, it's definitely worth your time but like Crappie Fan said it depends how deep the water is. How deep is your slip? Also, you need to place any type of condo/brush in the darkest water you can find.

I have sunk brush before at my slips at 7am and caught fish on them just at 9am. If they are in the right spots don't be surprised if they hold fish right away. The same goes for the wrong spots..they may never hold fish.

drop them.... for God sakes... drop them... u will not regret.... especially if the water is around 10 to 15feet.. you will slaughter them right before the spawning time.... have fun!!

Yeah, it will hold fish. Don't make it more than 8 feet tall or so though.

Its hard to say if it will hold them all year. How deep is the water on the lake? How deep is the water in that area? If there are areas with deeper water close by then they might spend the winter there. It could hold fish all year though. I know that the marina that I fish is 12 to 18ft deep and the fish hold all year long.

It should hold fish year round.

I sink/sunk double red wood cedars on coax or wire with a cinder block. Keep the trees standing up on the coax with parts of shirt hangers (free).

yeah I gathered up some solid brush today. I am trying to think of something that will keep it standing upright and weigh it down.

Plastic jug will keep it upright and concrete blocks filled with cement will hold it down.

We suck three in 14ft of water earlier this week and started catching fish off on them a half hour later. If they are liking what they see they will start moving on them. I've had others that it took up to a week for them to move in on, but it never hurts to check.

Most times it takes a few days, I've had piles not produce for a couple of weeks. You'll be happy you sunk them soon enough thumb

The ones I just sunk were about 7ft tall bamboo set in cider blocks with concrete. They fan out in a 10foot wide span. We sank three last week and are sinking another 15 to 20 next week.
