back it with a couple wraps of mono or put a strip of tape on the spool before you wrap it. I would have gone with different brand of braid if I were you. For some reason powerpro has been notorious for unknown breakoffs in saltwater. I've experienced it several times myself. If you can, I'd go return it and get suffix instead. Just my opinion

Yes, definitely use tape on the spool to prevent the braid from slipping. Regular electrical tape will do.
I too have heard of Powerpro braid being notorious for easily breaking as well.

I've used Power Pro braid for over two years now on my Curados and Citicas and I've never had the line break. One reel had the same Power Pro on it for close to a year when I decided to change it out. The line had faded on the top 20 or so yards but the bottom of the spool still looked pretty good. I use a few yards of mono backing on the spool. Suffix makes a real good braid also, it's more expensive than Power Pro. I don't think it fades as badly, but I use a fluorocarbon leader so the fading doesn't bother me. I'll use Power Pro instead and with the money saved, I'll buy an extra beer!

Been using Power Pro for years. Never had any kind of break off other than being hung up on an oyster reef. Also used Sufix, its good stuff, but not any better than PP, IMO.

I've never had an issue with Power Pro. We've pulled boat anchors up with it while downrigging. The only thing I can tell you is that BCX probably wont take the abuse that Braid is gona dish out to it. I bought a bran new 6600BCX a couple of months ago and spooled it with 65# PP Braid & the first Red I hooked on it broke the plastic gears inside it that drive the worm gear. I'm bettin that braid will out last that reel myself.......... TIGHT LINES

i usually wrap mono aroud the spool a couple times, never tried the tapin method but sure that works also.. ive tried power pro and spider wire braid(the cheaper one) the spider wire tends to fade more faster thn power pro, but ive had power pro snap several times while casting or fightin a fish but never has happened to me with spiderwire.. all in all tho i still buy an use both power pro and spider wire

I tried PP my last couple of spools, but have not been happy with it. My problem wasn't break-offs, it was air-knots. Frequently I would get a knot about 12 feet from the lure if it was a windy day.
I put SpiderWire on another spool and let my father-in-law use the one with PP when I took him out on the boat a couple of weeks ago. He got the same knots I had been getting. I didn't get them with the Spiderwire.

I like to use braid at times like the Sufix braid but I usually stick to mono most of the time.
I like Izorline Platinum mono. It's the best mono line you can use in saltwater and not expensive either.

I have had some problems with Spiderwire EZ braid...I lost several good trout (i presume because the other guys in the boat were yanking theirs out!) to this....Even the guide tied the hook on for me and it still "slipped." That is all we could assume. I switched to mono and never lost another hook...or fish! I think we finally ascertained that the spiderwire was 15lb test, 8lb diameter. He was also using braid, but it was 30lb test, 15lb diameter...anything else I am missing? I suppose it could have been the knot, too. What is the best knot for braid?

What is the best knot for braid? an improved cinch knot has always worked well for me for tieng my line to a leader or hook you can see how to tie an improved cinch knot at www.animatedknots.com

I've had slippage with the Improved Cinch Knot on braid. I use the Palomar Knot now and have never had a hook slip off or a line break off.... ...I have lost fish, just not for those reasons.

I tie my Power Pro directly to the Rockport Rattler jig.
I only use a mono leader if I am Tourney fishing for BIG TROUT in clear SaltH20.
If you are not using the Rockport Rattler jigs then make sure the jig you are using has it's eye all the way closed on your jig or a braided line can slip through it. The Mustad BLN Wide Gap hooks that the Rockport Rattle jigs use eyes close all the way to prevent this from happening.
Also, you can use a loop knot or just about any knot ya want with Power Pro with your jigs, however I use a triple blood knot.
Some anglers I have fished with will put a little dab of super glue on the braided knot to help out.

Where can I get the Rockport Rattler jigs to try out? I would like some 1/8, 1/4, and 3/8 ounce if they make them in those sizes.
As far as knots I pretty much use the Palomar Knot most all the time. Either the Palomar Knot or Trilene Knot I use.
I use braid line for specific fishing situations where I want something more sensitive, like winter fishing for instance when fishing plastics. I do like the Sufix braid.
But I use mono most of the time. And fluorocarbon like the Berkley Vanish fluorocarbon line. But my favorite mono to use is hands down Izorline Platinum. It's the best for saltwater as far as mono. But it all depends on the fishing situation. I use different line and different rigs depending on what fishing method I am using so it varies.
But braid has it's specific purpose. It has it's advantages and disadvantages just like mono. The Sufix braid I like runs about $15.99 at Academy and it's pretty good stuff in my opinion. I think the Power Pro is a little less at $11.99 or $12.99 or something like that.
