Here's a question hopefully someone can help me with. Is winter time a good time to fish for catfish in ponds? Or are they inactive because of the low water temps? What type of bait is best during the winter?

If in a pond I wouldnt think there is really a bad time to fish them... Wont have as big of patterns to keep up with in such an enclosed area...

Blues -- shad

Channels-- Punchbait.

Fishing ponds anytime of the year is great. My dad still lives in REAL west Texas just outside of Odessa. I get to fish his pond every time I go see him. It's stock with channels and he feed regularly. I always take my own bait, something different that his pond has not seen before. I took SureShot in May and completely thrashed the entire pond. They went crazy over that stuff, but that is not the first time that has happened. I always tell him that I only go catching when at his pond never seems to be any fishing. LOL

Don't forget to take a kid or two with you. That's always the best.

Channel cats are very sensitive to the temperture of the water below 65 degrees they are considered inconsistent eater. In the summer when the water is 80 degree we feed 3 per cent of body weight daily were as when the water is below 65 we feed 1/2 of one percent every 3 to 4 days. they may no eat at all when the water is below 60

Blue cat tolerate all water temps will and will bite on both live bait and packaged baits. You can't beat a live perch for those big cats.
