in one of the Korda video's Hamidi i think it was, talks about his hair rig he often uses where the "hair" comes straight out of the back of the eye. In this manner it lowers the hook and makes the point of the hook heavier. Has anyone experimented with this type of tying? If so, what results were given?

yeah i tried that only because i was trying to see if i could invent a way to make it easier to use the bait needle .it works jsut aswell as far as hook ups in my opinion . i also tried it with mono for the loop then tied the knotless knot to keep it in place . and yes it worked too . let your imagination run and you can do many things

Yeah those kora videos..they are given away for free if you buy toilet paper down here lizard
They are recorded at pay lakes..now paylakes are empty holes in the ground and snag free...with no natural food for the carp
The big carp comes from else were and they are constandly handfed with fishmeal pellets and boilies
So do you realy think you guys can learn something from those videos ?
The rig from the back of the eye is a follow up ..after all the Drigs banana rigs and other bull chit rigs they come up with this was the next one
Dont know if it works jeffry...it looks a bit like side hooking
I lost a lot of fish with side hooking rigs in the past
And if i caught a fish on it..it was bleeding heavy from the wound so I dont THINK it a good idea

I agree with leo. Those rigs are for rig shy carp on heavily pressured waters. Why change one of the most effective rigs ? A simple hair rig works everywhere here in the states even town lake which sees more carp pressure than any other lake in tx. A combi rig of coated hooklink is all you need here.

I tied one similar to the rig your talking about Jeff, i believe its called the KD rig. Didnt notice a difference between it and the plain hair rig, carp hook up ratio was the same however i did hook in to this bad boy on it. KD rig with one kernel of fake pop up maize and one kernel of real maize.

Great cat!

I think that rig is supposed to be more for popups than regular boilies or maize, in my recollection.

I recently read another story about the old hair rig in which the hair was tied to the bend of the hook (before the time of 'knotless' knots). I think they can all work in different situations.

I'm with Scott, though; keep it simple and get good at it!

Yeah brian this was the maddocks test fase..but it only works with small hooks and a very thin hairs
He was using his wifes hair ( from her head) to test this method..thats why the name
After she was getting bold (lol) he started to use very thin monofil hairs

Totally agree with the keep it simple. I get the impression the korda guys are having a bit of a laugh with some of the things they come up with, knowing people will buy all the extra bits to make those rigs. However, dunno about the paylake theory... Horseshoe where most the films were made contains some of the best homebred carp in the country. Many if not most of the 'pay lakes' have an abundance of natural food, especially on weedy waters and are not easy to fish. Redmire's a perfect example. The only real challenge with big waters is locating fish?

I think that every britt would beat you with a bankstick for calling redmire pool a paylake ..because that would be an insult to uk carp history
The lack of size of both redmire and horse shoe and the long time of angling pressure would make it very hard for me to believe that its a normal fishing situation were guys in texas can learn how rigs work for them
( think ghostie after 30yrs of hard fishing by 20-30 carpers 24/7)
