OK ive never been small mouth fishing but have a friend and I who are headed to Broken Bow Lake Sunday in search for some small mouth. I'd love some help. I have a couple of places to try but not sure how current the information is. I would graciously appreciate any help you may have. If you'd rather PM me some information i will keep it secret and report back to you as to how we do. Theres no tourneys there in the near future so you dont have to be scared to post publicly if you want. Thanks

We go up there to relax alot. Never to fish.
Check the boat dealer on 259...they probably have an idea.

Here is latest fishing report on Broken Bow
Broken Bow: November 15. Water clear. Largemouth and smallmouth bass good on smoke colored grubs and crawdad colored crankbaits. Catfish fair on juglines and trotlines with cut bait. Report submitted by Dru Polk, game warden stationed in McCurtain County.

Fished it for smallies last summer and all I caught was one. Caught a bunch of large mouth but only one smallie.
THE smallie was hanging out near a bluff in 11' of water. Small Yamamoto cut tail worms or 4" thin senko - green pumpkin...
I would suggest to fish near the damn. The whites where going crazy in 30' of water or deeper, and the large mouth where feeding on the outside edge facing the damn on the left.
Look for a tree sticking out of the water. It will appear as if it's coming out of 60+ feet deep water, but it's very high but small bluff...never seen one like that before.
good luck - I plan on going back next summer myself.

Stay on the lower end of the lake, fish the islands, especially in the morning. The lower end bluffs are good, but catch more largemouth & spots than the smallies. After the sun gets up fish long tapering points. I catch most of my smallmouth on crankbaits and carolina rigs.
If you get a chance stop, by Bruton's sporting goods in town, if Steve is there he will be happy to let you know what is going on at the lake.

I spent a week there last yr in Aug, hotter then blue blazes. All I caught were dinks. Did loose a huge smallie.
That lake has my number, I fished all over it. I am of the opinion the local tournament guys fish brushpiles on the south end. The locals that just fish told me to fish the north end, but I couldnt buy a fish. I didnt ask enough questions. I found one brush pile the last day and on my first cast hung up a jig and ruined the spot getting unhung........wasnt my day. Headed my dumb but...t back to Houston.
That lake has my number, my better half is convinced the lake has no fish in it. I need to go a different time of the yr than smoken hot summer with no wind, I bet sping and fall a guy could catch fish. It was so hot and so still I belive you could have left a boat in the middle of the lake floating and come back hrs later and it still be in the same spot.......lol.
That is one pretty lake and real nice area, with some neat small mountains to drive around in. Those half cowboy, half hillbilly Okies in SE Oklahoma are nice people.
Lots of nice cabins to stay in also, anything from 900 sq ft to milti story larger than what you live in....its just money.
I am planning to make a run up there in the sping and fish a tournamet and try to get the hang of the place.

Toddyrob is spot on. Good advice.
If you have any cloud cover don't forget the top water. The small mouths and spots can't stand it. They come from deep to hit those top waters
Good luck

I would stay on the lower end, west side and fish the channel swings coming off the islands. I usually use a custom weighted rouge or Lucky Craft SP type bait.

I go out to bbow several times a year, been out there probably close to 20 times, still havnt caught a smallmouth. I usually catch smallmouth (by accident) most of the time anywhere they live. Even caught a nice smallmouth in lake nocona once, they don't even have a lake record for smallys there. My point is in my opinion if you are just going to look for smallmouth I would fish lake Murray or Texoma. I know there are smallmouth in bbow, but just so many spots and larges it's been hard for me to find any. I fish mostly midlake area all the way up to bear creek, probably not ideal smallmouth territory to be fair though. Was just up there a couple of weeks ago and in 3 days caught over 100 fish and caught most of them looking at them on graph. Very fun lake to fish, have fun.

I had never caught a small mouth before so a buddy of mine Scott Callaway been reading up and figuring out where to go to break me in. We decided on Broken Bow lake in Oklahoma. What a beautiful lake. Mountains and valleys, deer and wildlife everywhere. If you ever have a chance to get up that way GO. They have cabins to rent as well
Water Clarity was very clear down to about 3-5 feet Water temps 55-60(my temp gauge is off some) Air Temps 45-64 Wind calm to 5mph from the southeast Fish Caught on Finesse football jig Green Pumpkin Baby Brush Hawg Watermelon Orange Flake Finesse Worm Mandaline,June Bug, Black neon Carolina Rig Chartruess Pepper finnese worm Jerkbait Sour Grape
We started off the the backs of coves by the marina and worked our way out.Catchin all of our fish shallow for the most part 2-10 feet of water 90% were off rocks and/or bushes in the shallows with deep drop offs close by.My very first fish of the day was my first small mouth ever. Not very big maybe 1.5 lbs but fun none the less. We spent alot of the day looking at maps and spots to fish. All fish were caught primarily in the back of coves or pockets off points. We fished a few main lake spots with no succees. next time down we will have a better idea of what to do bt it was fun time to say the least we had over a dozen fish. nothing huge, just fun fish. Oh yeah Scott caught a nice spotted bass in 51 ft of water on a C-Rig while we were driftin and i was retieing a bait, that was kinda wild. We had a great time with some fun fellowship along the way

It's beautiful up there, we stay in a river front cabin at Beavers Bend every winter and do some trout fishing but I've never done any bass fishing on Broken Bow. I'll have to get up there one of these days. I couldn't imagine catching a bass in 51'ft of water, that's definatley wild! Sounds like ya'll had fun...
