my wife has been out of the workforce for 12 years now but i fondly remember when she came home everyday and yabbered on and on about the backstabbing and cutthroating at her office. she worked 15 hour days many times because it became a game of who can work the hardest, like some sort of contest.

even now, she tries to get in the middle of my "work issues" just to be part of the drama.

JD, i think your wife should stick it out. My boss (male) can be a major pain in the neck sometimes but ya just have to laugh it off. most of the stuff he does isnt worth worrying about anyway.

My wife works in HR and some of the stories that she tells me are amazing. I always thought that HR was neutral between the employee and the employer but apparently thats not the case.

She told me that there are the files that the employee can view and files they arent allowed to view. The latter has all kinds of things on the employee such as complaints to HR.

What she has told me is to document everything yourself and include dates, times, names and an accurate description of the event. She said not to go to HR because depending on the employer that could do more harm than good.

She has told me that she has witnessed someone meeting with an HR rep. As soon as the meeting was over the HR rep calls the complainers boss and they discuss ways of terminating the employee.

After hearing some of the stories from my wife, I have very little respect for HR anymore...

Good luck in your situation.

My suggestion would be to have your wife stick with it but look for another job if it's bad enough.

One thing that my wife does have working in her advantage, I think, is that she and the HR lady get along very well, and that the HR chick cannot stand her boss either and has said that there are a ton of people who've complained about her. In fact, from what she has said the HR chick has told her, she(hr chick) has broken the sacred rule of talking about other employees to my wife.

All in all, it sounds like she works for and with a bunch of drama queens who can't seem to keep their mouth shut about anything. What I can't figure out though is why a company would keep a person in a position of managing people when the consensus is she is incompetent, at best.
