This weekend I've got some friends going up to Turner Falls to go camping. Despite the fact that I typically can't stand that place, I was considering riding up for the day to visit with them on Saturday.
I noticed on the Turner Falls website that they have started stocking trout for this season, which I never knew they did. Its obviously a privately funded stocking (they charge $12.50 per angler), but I have no idea what size the trout are or in what numbers they're stocked in.
So my question...has anybody ever been up there and shook their flypole at these world famous Turner Falls trout? I've pretty much decided that the quality of the fishing will determine if I see these particular friends or not.

I have been there before when they have trout in the pools and creeks. I was lucky and caught a good cold day when not tons of people were there. The fish I caught in the pool under the falls mostly ran 8-10" but were very feisty. Lots of them and they were eager to take dries and nymphs both.
When I moved to the creeks below the fish were more fun, it seemed more like creek fishing in the riffles and such, but more selective. They had put some larger fish in there. Up to a few solid 16-18" fish I had fun with.
The price of admission is a bit much for me as it is not really much closer than the Blue or BB but I would check it out and see for yourself.
Good luck. eric

Should start out by saying it has been a couple years since I fished turner falls...
And I've only fished it twice... first time there were a ton of fish, but they were stocked in a handful of places and bunched up big time. 8-12in seemed to be the size range.
2nd time, hadn't been stocked in a while and it was pretty wiped out... far fewer fish but same small size. They claim to stock some nicer fish, just haven't seen 'em and hasn't been worth it for me to go back to see.
it's kinda fun water to fish though, a lot of neat creek features

Thanks y'all. I'll probably use this as a chance to go fish a place I would never decide to go otherwise. Maybe I will get lucky and get into a couple of those larger fish you both mentioned.
I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Looks to be a nice weekend for you to check it out...
I've heard Falls Creek (camp very close to turner falls) stocks this time of year also, haven't fished it, but it could be a backup option for you once you're out there

Man...I checked out your website...that carp video is wicked fd up. Maybe they followed that with a dessert of wasabi-crusted kittens' paws.

I think I know the vid you are talking about. Does it involve chopsticks by chance? That thing made me cringe ten kinds of ways.

I wish I had some info I could give y'all on Turner Falls, but I ended up going up to the Blue River instead. Excellent fishing and excellent weather - hiked up to the C&R area for the first time as well. The fish up there were a little bigger than the ones we were catching down in the campground.
