My wife hates her boss

Not sure what kind of good advice I can give my boss about this one. It's been fairly well known in her office that my wife and her boss have been at odds for sometime. This chick whose the boss, has been the direct reason that 5 employees there have either left or were canned. From all I can tell, she is an awful manager, and comes across as a real see you next tuesday. I say she is a bad manager for several reasons but mainly because she's very condescending to her employees and she's always talking about her employees to other people in the group, which always winds up getting back to my wife.
Long story short, my wife has been there nine years and it sounds like her stay there has run it's course. If I were working now, would tell her to tell her boss to suck it, and leave, but she can't do that now.
Should she just confront this old biatch directly, or go to HR and have them mediate? HR has already had to sit her boss down several times in in the past 6 months since she has been the manager for all kinds of issues.
Now, I know I am only hearing one side of this story, but what should I tell her, if anything?

If it was me I'd tell her to simmer down and try to be cool for awhile. I am going through something similar with my boss and there's only three of us in the office. Right now you just gotta suck it up and hang tough.

I don't know how long you've been married but, in the 20 years of my marriage, I figured out that drama is part of the day for a woman. When she comes home from work, she'll rattle off all the [censored] that ticked her off at work but, most of the time is a pressure relief. As men, we want to fix problems. No matter what you try, it won't work. As long as there are more than 2 women in an office there will be drama and you're just spossed to listen.

I know that drill, but this isn't the standard how my day went kind of krap. When my wife has her mind made up about something, Jesus Christ himself couldn't come down and change it, so I want to make sure this is handled as tactfully as possible. Part of this problem stems from the fact that whenever anyone in the group has problems they come to my wife and not the boss, mainly because she won't try to make them feel stupid if they have a question. I think the boss is jealous that er employees don't like her as a friend like they appear to like my wife. Who knows, maybe she is just neurotic, I mean more than how women normally are.

You just make sure the house is clean and dinners ready on time and let her worry about bringin home the bacon and making the big decisions.

If she confonts her boss that would end badly. Have her go to HR and at least it would be doument on her boss's record.

Have to get it documented. Have her get her ducks in a row and lay it out.

Until you get a job, she should just tote the company line. I wouldn't have here go to HR. Her boss could be in bed with HR. Once you get a job she should go to HR or the proper channels or tell them to suck it if she hates the place. Times are tuff. Don't do anything drastic right now. What he said. Buy her some wine or something and cool her down. Good luck to ya, when back on your feet give em he77.

Some females just like to be tougher on other females in the workplace. i've seen it before many times.
Also, sometimes w/ male or female supervisors - they think doing their job is a popularity contest. If your ole lady needs the job, I'd just tell her to gut it out for now & send out her resume - most people in HR won't want to recognize any type of issues (trust me, I know a lot of people that have reported legit issues in the workplace & it's comeback on them twice as fast. W/ that said, I also know a bunch of people that have made up issues right before they were canned and got nice promotions)
Honestly, the best case senerio would be for your wife to talk to her supervisor to let her act as a team lead to help her fellow employees & also to provide feedback & to act as a liason. (her 9 yrs of experience should be viewed as an asset, not as a threat)
We've all had our share of supervisors & direct reports that don't belong in their positions, but for some reason they'll roll up to us or we roll up to them.
Either way, I'd suggest to talk to her supervisor in the meantime to make the peace & to express the value that she adds to the team. (also, get her to document everything that is going on just in case). I'd also suggest that she asks for a skip-level meeting to formulate job roles going forward.
I wish her the best

Document, document, document (take good notes).
Chain of command.
A job in the hand.......is worth a lot.
A wise old sage once told me....keep your head down and your mouth shut (unless you have a really good case documented).
FLSA and EEOC are your friends.

It's best to do this each time an incident happens. It doesn't look right for your wife to go to HR way after the fact and state things that happend or that were said 6 months after the fact.HR will maintain proper documentation.

Your wife needs to find a new job fast. Her employer is well aware of the current job market. That lady is going to find a way to fire her. It happens all the time. As far as her 9 years of experience, that don't mean nothing today.

Most people hate their boss and there are many ways to deal with it...However, if you're wife has been there for 9 years, tell her to suck it up and wait it out...Unless that boss has been there as long or longer, she'll be gone eventually...
I hated my boss and when the doctor told me I had to quit my job, I wasn't that upset...I just started up my own business and went into semi-retirement...8.5 years later and I'm doing fine...
