I used to use lizards period until I started fishing beds faster with a natural colored football head jig. You can just throw it on the bank or way behind the fish and drag it and make dirt come up and they key is finding that "sweet spot" on the bed.

It just goes to show that bed fish will eat just about anything...

The two key elements that make one bait better than another is personal confidence, which everyone has expressed, and hook up to land ratio. A lot of baits that guys have mentioned have poor ratios due to the amount of plastic that balls up on the hook or penetrating power when you have to set the hook quickly. Weedguards can be prohibitive as well. One of the tricks is to use these baits to agitate and when the fish is hot... throw in that unobtrusive thin plastic bait that you know will hook up well and hammer that sow when she sucks it in. With that being said....

My favorite is the Hightail Worm by Kicker Fish Bait Co. The air chambers in that worm float the tail up into the face of a fish suspended in a bed and I bite it down smaller when I think that the fish is ready.

Let's face it, everyone thinks about that big lunker when they think about bed fishing, but realistically most people end up bed fishing for smaller males trying to fill out a limit or for fun because of their sheer numbers and difficulty in locating.

Great info Clark and welcome to TFF! Sight fishing with Kurt Dove on Amistad last year we used white Zoom Speed Craws and they sure did bite them! What a fun way to fish.
