While you're in there, check the roller and bushing or bearing on which the drum sits. If it's not tight, you'll end up with a fire on your hands. Been there. A sock gets between the drum and the outer edge, and bingo... you have a fire. A toxic one too.
Had one do that one morning at 0600. Leaving to go fishing. Wife opened dryer door to stop it and thank God she did. Flames and smoke poured out. One whiff and I nearly went to my knees. Went outside for a breath, ran back in, unplugged it and it one motion I tossed it into the garage and slid it out on the driveway. I could barely see by the time I unplugged it...much less breathe. 15 more seconds and I would have been down for the count. It was a Kenmore ( Whirlpool).
Bought a Maytag the next day and havent looked back. Bigger roller with a bearing, not a bushing.
Now, Whirlpool bought out Maytag. Not good.
