George: That sure is a nice looking fish. I would have thought that a 6 weight would be about as light as I would go.

You sure know how to...
Have fun with this stuff.

Dale, I use your quote often – that’s what it’s all about.

I’ve been jealous of you UL guys and just had to try to have fun with my hybrids without killing them ….. so I gave it a shot and believe the TFO 4wt Axiom and TiCrX fly rods work for winter fishing without fish mortality.
I love for a fish to take drag, get them on the reel, and bring them to hand

This was the first time I’ve ever seen 4wts, let alone catch fish with them.

Cast testing fly rods on the parking lot or on the grass is a good way to get the “feel” of a fly rod, but IMO the only real way to test a fly rod is with fish.

My choice of 4wt fly rods for my type of winter hybrid fishing is the TFO Axiom, followed closely by the TiCrX

I'm partial to 4 wt. fly rods. I have five - 4 wt. fly rods... Winston, 2 - Orvis, St. Croix and TFO. My favorite by far is the new TFO Fly Rod Chronicles Series 4 weight.

I have a four weight bamboo rod that came into being in a bit of an unusual manner.

A few years back, my friend J.R. (splitcanerod over in the sandbox right now) gave me an old bamboo rod he'd gotten on eBay. It was/is a three piece, about nine or ten feet long. It was a bit cumbersome to cast and stayed in it's kennel most all the time.

Then, not too long ago Zenkoanhead had a detachable butt bamboo rod that decided to step off of this mortal coil, right where the base ferrule connected. So there he was with a useless detached handle/reel seat/butt piece. Enter the top two sections of the old splitcanerod gift and a match made in heaven. I now have a four weight, six foot or so bamboo detachable butt fly rod.

George,
The TFO 6 foot 2wt will handle up to WF4 line with ease. Mine has the old style Fuji reel seat.

On another note, while acting as a "fishing buddy" at the November 14th Reel Recovery Retreat I fished with your friend Ed. He had a lot of nice things to say about you and his church family.

Nice rod Les, can't beat the TFO's.
Glad you got to meet and fish with my friend Ed at the RR retreat.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
