Lakes Full Temps 50s to 70s November Fishing good to great Gas $ Has been worse
While our brothers to the north are draining, sealing, fogging, storing, crying, and dreaming of spring 2010.Or at best cooped up in a 5x5 on a frozen surface while covering water through an 8" hole with a 12" pole.
We are blessed and I just wanted to wish ya'll a Happy Thanksgiving next week.

I have ice fished in Colorado. Sometimes through as much as 2 feet of ice. One time we drove out on the ice and sat on the tailgait of truck and fished straight down. Must have lots of clothes on. Most guys wear insulated jump suits over several layers, and maybe a good coat over the jumpsuit. Everybody wears 2 heavy pair of socks and muckluks. Might stand around and talk for hours with no action and then nearly every rod in the area has some action. Limit is 8 trout but they were usually good sized. Ice-off was the best time of the year. Still have to dress warmly but the action is good all night long. But moving to Texas I had no idea how good it could get. Like 75 keeper White Bass in 2 hours, 60 the next day. 20 an hour not uncommon. 40+ lbs of fish from the kayak in one day, several times. Think I'll stay here for a while.

Something ain't right about fishing through a hole in the ice. Just sayin! If you get staioned in Alaska and want to fish, you can either wait 9 months for summer or go ice fishing. But, when you pull a 20 lb chum salmon through that hole and then another and then another, it's kind of kewl. Just sayin

I wouldn't know yet (not living in TX yet) ... but it's all good. I like ice fishing it beats the alternative - no fishing.

My dad told me how to catch a bear using peas when I was a little kid. Of course I was questioning his theory until he explained the method. Cut a hole in an iced over lake then evenly place green peas around the hole in 3 inch spacing. Hide. Then when the bear comes down to take a pea you kick him in the ice hole. Doug's comment reminded me.

Cedarcreek I had an uncle who shared that hunting secret until I was well into my teens. I've shared that theory since. Big Amen to Texas!

have ice fished in Minnesota in -20 temps. got one of those little outhouse looking shacks that you assemble on the fly, so to speak, and we mauled the yellow perch and crappie. Also, my late uncle, the Minnesotan, got a couple of nice walleyes too!
Not near as bad as it sounds and, to say the least, COOL!

We are blessed no doubt about it. I have had the chance to ice fish. I hand augured a 4" hole through 3' of ice. Then I sat on a bucket and waited. Now I know how they came up with the definition of a fisherman "A jerk at one end waiting for a jerk at the other end". Now I can say I did it though it was not real fun for me.

I also think we are blest to be in Texas and espectially in the Dallas area. How many productive lakes are within an hours drive from Dallas? A lot and they are good lakes and getting better. While certain times of the year are better than others, I have caught fish every month of the year and enjoyed being able to get out on a lake and fish with friends!
