I couldn't edit my other post so I started another one and added the pictures.

I've got 1 wall in my stairwell that I need to paint. My stairwell is a straight run from down to up. The wall goes from the ground floor straight up to the ceiling of the second floor, the other wall ends with a half wall on the second floor. The stairwell is about 4 feet wide. What is the easiest and SAFEST way to cut in and paint the main wall?

Safest way? Hire someone! wink I've used those little devices that are made for cutting in and attach it to a long extension rod. Results aren't perfect, though (and I really only used it because Crown is going up so it didn't have to be perfect)

go to a tool rental store and rent an extendable walkboard and do it yourself or call a painter and get a price or make them an offer... I'll bet most will paint one wall for $100.00....

We used a ladder leveler from Sherwin Williams, can't find a picture of it though, and it wasn't near as costly as this one.. http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/ladder-...rch&sst=All

Its not a fun job. You might consider getting someone here on the TFF who is a painter, like White Rock Jesse to do it for ya. For me, its SAFETY FIRST!!

Ok, tape a brush to the end of a rolloer pole and cut the wall in. Do this from behind the little pony wall. then roll it out. Looks pretty simple to me but then again thats what I do every day.

Darryls right about the pole and taping a brush to it,ive done that a few times in hard to get to places.

The ladder and walk board deal is best way to go.If your affraid of doing that, just hire someone to do it.Looks like its only an 8 ft. ceiling.

You need an extention ladder, extendable walkboard, a little gaint ladder, or a painter who has the tools who knows how to safely do the job for you. Make sure he has general liability and workmans comp insurance and is a memeber of the local BBB in order to protect yourself ffrom a law suit if someone gets hurt.

You need an extention ladder, extendable walkboard, a little gaint ladder, or a painter who has the tools who knows how to safely do the job for you. Be sure to get his last 3 references before you hire a paint contractor. Make sure he has and gives you a copy of his general liability and workmanscomp insurance and is a memeber of the local BBB in order to protect yourself from a law suit if someone gets hurt.

If a painter says he cannot afford the insurance believe me you cannot afford to take a chance and hire him.

Another good place to find contractors Sherwin Williams or go to www.thebluebook.com

I am a retired Paint and Construction Contractor. I was in business for 37 years.

$250 to $300 is a fair price from a reputable insured contractor.

put a brush on a roller handle or other long handle like Darryl Suggested.

I will cost you the value of a 12" strip of duct tape.

its a lot safer that it seems ( just stay on the right side of the ladder ) just in case this may help others in the future thumb
