My work is guiding...other people make their living keeping up fisheries and restoring the environment, both are admirable livings. In that spirit...if one where to follow the idea presumed above, in order to fish, anywhere, one would also have to be a part above restoring and keeping the fisheries and environment. So if you want to travel anywhere and fish you are not welcome if you have not done that? When would anyone be welcome to fish anywhere but where they live and if they make their living in the fisheries and environment in that community? I make a point to respect any place I fish. In the LMF I rarely ever keep fish (10 fish or less in 4 years), always pick up random trash and hook packages from the bait chunkers, and I call the wardens when I see poaching going on. Without actually being a resident of the LMF it is hard to do more than this, although I do appreciate all the work that those in that community, and those in others, do beyond that. My appreciation does not mean that I would assume myself and every other person who does not live there and work on the river, welcome to fish there. There would be no such thing as fishing if such requirements where put on all of us. I work year round to put clients on fish: trout, to crappie, to sandbass, back to crappie (yes, during the spawn), to striper, and back to trout. Occasionally, trips from each of the above even out of its prescribed season. I simply do not have room in that time to go to the LMF, and every other place I guide, and work on the fisheries and improve the environment. I am quite sure that no one else on this form can claim that they can either. Again, no one would be welcome to fish anywhere they were not actively involved in the in improving the fisheries and environment. It is an impossible standard that even the promoter of this post I doubt keeps, unless he only fishes in the LMF, or works in every environment he fishes. This suggests that I, and everyone else on this form, is not welcome in the LMF because we are not up there year round pushing boulders and coddling fish. Guess we should all stay home...good luck with that, your community survives only because out of towners. The business in this state park would die and then the funding for the support and restoration of the fisheries and environment would follow. IT ALL FALLS DOWN...

For a history lesson:
-When I was 12, I lived in Ft. Myers, FL. The first time that I went to the flats with the fly rod, I caught a 30 lb Tarpon. After that, I was hooked on flyfishing, waiting for the arial jumps of fish on every cast after a hook-up. Awsome fish! If you do your research, you will find me in the Pine Island Paper. -Front Page on a couple occations. So yes, I have caught a Tarpon or 100 in my days. Again, if you have issues, my number is 469-528-0210. Dont post on here unless you have something to say on a non-negitive level. Till the next trip up there, -Tight lines

I can't wait to go to BB so I can have my limit of fresh trout every day I'm there. Mmmm smoked trout. The bigger ones taste the best!

I've watched all 83 episodes of "my name is earl' ....
Man1: Randy, that new guy on the TFF that's been beating up on TarpnFly's done pissed a few people off, me included.
Man2: Earl I remember last spring you said that that TraponFly guy pissed you off, him catching all those fish in at Rowlett while you worked all day every day at the new Gas'N'Mino.
Man1: Yeah, I know Randy, but that was different, Tarpon was always posting all those pics of folks smiling and with full stringers while this new guy is just a new guy stirring up trouble.
Man2: Yeah, I guess your right, hey Earl, wanna go look in the toilet with me again, and discuss the best places for the first cast, Crabman just went thru, and everyone knows he's a noflusher, always leaves a pile of crossed logs.
Man1: Well no Randy, I kinda don't but I guess I might have to so's I can cross it off my list.
Man2: You're cool, Earl, I'll go get my new Scoobie Pole, Hey, you think, will I need a bobber ?

Hey Carey, pissed that someone told you not to meet your clients in front of his shop then leave the car there?
That's classy man, low ball the guides who make a living there then use there property as a parking lot. Who said that about the parking lot?

'Spose it's time to chime in here, since I guess I probably have as much experience dealing with the continuing saga of the "elitist fly angler" vs. the person who doesn't much care what rig they're carrying today, or what they are wearing, as long as they're catchin' fish, and having a good time.
Although I was born in OK and grew up in Texas, the last 40 years of my life were spent in the Rocky Mountains. During that time I've fished every state from Canada to Mexico, from the Pacific to Texas. I carry all types of sticks, and frankly ain't partial to any one in particular. If the longrod is getting the job done, that's the ticket, but if it's tossin' cut bait for cats, I'm all over it.
I run what many refer to as an "elitist" fishing forum that has been through all this BS attacking those ya don't agree with, and pretty much narrowed things down to several dozen real good anglers who typically carry a variety of weapons. However, we do have a handful of the finest exclusive fly people on the planet who are members. Difference is these people are not judgmental. One guides the flats of Florida and looks a lot like Ted Nugent, while another is a lady guide in Utah/Idaho who sings rock and roll at night, and sounds just like Pat Benatar... to give you an idea.
Carey Thorn is also a member, and we're proud to have him! He fits right in. Does what it takes to produce, and leaves the spot pristine after he's gone. Does the best he can to help everybody around him catch fish, whether they are paying customers, or not. Yep, he keeps fish. Might oughta ask him where those fish go, before you condemn him.
Not even gonna tread on the fishing for "spawners" issue, since frankly I don't believe the LMF has shown the ability to produce a healthy procreating population of trout... nor do I believe it will. Very nice dream, but it ain't the Little Red.
Bottom line is that Carey Thorn does not harm the waters he fishes... he is a tremendous benefit to the outdoor industry, which needs all the help it can get right now.
This issue of confrontation between anglers of different styles extends across this great country, and I for one, would sure as h**l like to see it stop. TU, LMFF, and other similar organizations would be able to garner much stronger support if they ceased to attack those who could become allies... with a little mutual respect, communication, and maybe understanding.
...and yes, before someone says "oh yeah, but he's got a dog in this race", you are right on the bean. I built that website for Carey, and wouldn't have done it if I hadn't liked what I saw and heard while spending the day with him slamming Rowlett Creek! Yeah, he can be one arrogant sumbee, but can't we all who know a thing or two about bringin' Walter to shore!
Give 'em hell, Carey!
