I just got back from the Atchafalaya Basin on a houseboating vacation. I took my boat as well but the fishing wasn't very good due to some recent storms there according to the locals. It was however a great place to spend a few days and recharge the batteries. cheers

Great pics. Drove over that on the way to Baton Rouge a coupla times. Looks like an outdoorsman's paradise. Would love to get back up in there in a canoe. Would probably get lost.

Back in 1985 i got a chance to fish down there. I was with a fellow that grew up down there fishing that whole area. I will never forget running those waterways in that Flatbottom boat. It was a blast!

I grew up in Lafayette, LA. Great pictures of a place I was lucky enough to fish quite a bit once upon a time.

Great pics.

I grew up in Baton Rouge. Used to fish a lot of that area.

Bayou Sorrell, Bayou Pigeon, Grand Lake, etc.

Before GPS, you had BETTER know your way around, LOL.

"WOW" thats some good pictures, a buddy said it looked a lot different down their, one day, 2 weeks ago with 30+ mile per hour winds blowing against the current in the channels. They said the waves were coming from every where, making for a wild boat ride.

Thank for the comments. We were in the Henderson/Lake Bigeaux area and know it pretty well from previous trips. It is dead easy to get lost out there. We had a member of our group get lost for 5 hours a few years ago. Of course taking the little flat bottom out at night probably wasn't a great idea in the first place!

Looks like you're in a deck boat. Seems like it would be hard to get around in certain places. The pics are beautiful.

The deck boat gets around fine for the most part. The water is deeper than it appears and there are channels to run once you get used to where they are.

It's a beautiful place and I am luck to be able to fish it whenever I can get away. It's a shame that the Hurricanes in the last few years have hurt the fishing so much. It had really just recovered from Hurricane Andrew 10 years ago when the recent ones hit.

I got to fish it twice before Katrina and it was a blast. I've gone back several times since, but it hasn't really recovered yet. I'll keep on going until it does though!
