that is correct. I am putting in my two cents that, no matter what else, some folks meeting on Black Friday could be a good thing.
Only thing is, I am getting sick and tired of wading in from Texas side and need to get some floatyness to go in from Oklahoma and out to where big mamma resides
Day after TDay sounds like a good day to descend upon the Red
That would be black Friday mister Robin sir.
If this event blows up BIG - it could be the demise of black friday and the start of "Red Friday" with millions of lonely 6:30 store managers all sad and 'wtf'? opening crowdless doors to empty lots. Pre Week long news blurbs of folks buying cheap fly combos by the scads. Folks 30 deep along the Red, all our important and smiling faces interviewed with " Back in the day...' comments sigh...

Eat twice as much as usual on turkey day.

Is wading difficult or not allowed on the okie side of the river?
It's easier to wade in from the TX side, but easier to get in the water with a floating conveyance from the OK side - and the floating conveyance gives you more options to chase more fish.

No, wading is better on the Okie side as it is a big sandy beach. Texas side is rocks and trash, tip toeing out while trying to not fall down into the mono, crank baits and old diapers.
having a floaty thing and launching from Oklahoma puts one out over the deep water without needing to spend an hour sweating bullets and taking leaps of faith to get out to where one can perch on a submerged rock (OK, that is my subjective point of view on wading out very far from Texas bank) and try to keep one's balance while casting and hoping that a giant striper will take the fly and at the same time hoping that a giant striper does not take the fly because then you'd be in the same situation as my aunt's poodle when it finally did catch up to that squirrel one day "whatcha gonna do now?"
Being pulled about on the Red River in a float tube or canoe would be elegant. Getting pulled in off of your rock would suck at Dyson levels.

I guess where I have put in from that beach it seems to get fairly deep pretty fast... and for all the reasons you mentioned, I definitely prefer taking the tube up there. Frankly, I doubt I'll ever wade-fish that water again. The rocks are slicker than anything I've ever walked on and it is a solid mess of mono too. Much more pleasant in something that floats.

I see folks out there in boats all the time. Scott Bridgess takes his Boston Whaler in there alot. The water is fine, it's more an issue of getting launched as there is no ramp, just a sandy beach. Scott's advice was 4WD only. Anyone else have launch tips for trailered boats on the Red below Denison?
And I'm guessing that it's too shallow to make it feasible to attack this location in the Green Weenie?
I wouldn't put a motor boat in up there unless I knew exactly where I was going, the rocks are great in number and un-remorseful...also if wading the vast number of rusty hooks and fishing line is treacherous.
Yeah - you dont really need a motor at all for the top
there is another hot pool 3 ? miles down
plus like 400 more miles of river behind that plus then the ocean, and thats another 1.2 million miles of shore, infinite circling.... navigating, pirates, capture...
best pack a lunch

And dont kid your self, with felt boots and a safety knife and "above deaf" hearing , the red is a fun and all day wade. And totally productive
Shore casting sucks totally
I agree wit ya, but it aint no playground (despite what 178 Mex cans thought when I was there) be careful is all I am saying, I would love to fish up there out of a kayak, canoe or small boat, but I wouldnt put a motor on it (unless you have a spare lower unit)
hey TRR, Welcome to Texoma, gateway to the home of Oklahomo redfish.
Kinda need to know the water for a motor boat. Going down river very far is a no no without a jet drive (generation only) or a air boat. Yaks work great. Long very hard paddle back if the are generating. Be careful of steel and rebar below the 75 bridge.
Launching a big boat on OK side is pretty much 4WD terriory. Easier to launch and load during generation. Stay close to the big cottonwood tree during generation. You have to go futher east during non-generation, fairly shallow. Sunken logs east of Brokeback Point about 200 to 300 yds downstream. Becareful of old pilings by Brokeback Point. Channel is cut next to TX side. Best to survey area when the water is down.
This post may seem a little bumpy. Traveling 75 mph down I-35. I'm not driving. Just applied for TWIC card in OKC. Have you ever molested a Trout is one question. I lied.
- the weather was nice enough - I have an awesome new Kamloops Float tube, well outfitted - the generating's been at full blast - no buddies were available - it was the Sunday AM 1st flush that ruined every thing, the thought of me getting sucked into a stage 2 whirlpool, all alone, water's cold, a life time of bad karma's long overdue....
Yup I whimped.

No pics from me today... hands were chilled & clumsy and the only fish I caught that I would've wanted a picture of broke me off. Whatever it was, it was pretty impressive. Other than that, a pretty good day with a few decent stripers, two fat sand bass, and strangely enough I caught a 10-inch shad.
Steve caught dozens, maybe scores, or even hundreds of fish. After about an hour or so they all got so tired of getting hooked in the mouth all the fish just swam over and crawled up in his lap. He's like the fish-whisperer or something.

Quick question on fishing the dam... Is it better to fly fish when water is high or low? I haven't fished it yet and considering burning some vacation time before end of year and trying it out.
in other words your better off tubing lol...reminds of trying to wade out on that rocky point one time when the gates are shut off..i stepped into a hole that sent me in over my head
