Circle Hook Question

I usually fish with circle hook's but I am not able to fish with my clicker.
My question is can I still use the clicker on a circle hook without changing to a J hook?

Sure
Once you get a strike....let the fish run until you would normally set the hook. Instead, engage the reel and bring the line tight by reeling and sweeping the rod(don't jerk like a bass fisherman) continue reeling quickly until the rod is fully loaded and the fish is on.
Or...reach over and engage the reel in the rod holder and wait for it to load up...remove the rod from said rod holder and catch fish.
Circle hooks work best on fish like catfish that quickly swallow their prey....as the line comes tight the hook gets pulled from their gullet and into their mouth where the hook "cams" over into the corner of the mouth.

good rod holders no need for clickers 3 or 4 of my reels have um and NEVER used um I have great handmade rod holders from 77TACKLEBOX77 that will last forever I just do a lot of bank-nightfishing and I think it would come in handy. I LOVE clickers so I am going to try getting the method down of sweeping the circle in their mouth to engage the hook so I can put the clickers to use.

If you are referring to drifting, I would agree 100%. But if you are anchored up or in the timber and you have 15 rods fanned out all around the boat, you need clickers to alert you immediately of a potential bite. If you rely soley on sight, you might have a fish hooked and swim all around the boat before you even realize it. (tangling other lines) Clickers have a place and are a very effective tool, if used correctly.

IMHO, clickers can be used bank fishing sometimes, but not always. If the wind is really blowing into you, you will have a lot of difficulty hearing the clickers unless they are right next to you. I don't bank fish much anymore, but when I do, I don't use clickers, typically, because I spread the rods out far enough along the bank to cover a lot of area. I have seen some folks rig up soda bottles to the tips of their rods with luminated float inserts in them. This is a good way to get a visual on a strike after dark. During daylight, you can just watch the rod tips. Fishing is for enjoyment, so pick a style that you enjoy and look for ways to improve your chances.

I agree, It's hard to watch all the poles when fanned out, plus when it's slow you tend to not pay as much attention. I've fished both ways and honestly believe my hook-up ratio has increased since using the clickers. I could be wrong but I think when the fish picks up the bait and feels resistance he is more likely to drop it. I could be full of it but that's my opinion  . Plus I just love the sound of the clickers screaming.  I do believe you should leave your reels engauged when drifting though more for keeping your lines at a set length than anything.

i use circle hooks i would just let the fish run. but you could reel when you have a fish on but never jerk

I'm new at cat fishing but i'm working hard. I have four rod holders. They don't have clickers. So, should I back the drag way off so the fish can run for a while, then screw down the drag and start reeling? Also I read where one guy drift fished but lowering his baits straight down from the boat, then reeled up a few feet....fishing vertically. Seems like more people talk about dragging the bait on a C-rig well away from the boat. What is your opinion?

depends on how deep you are fishing and where the fish are ........ deep water ,6' off bottom we fish straight down 20 ' of water 2'off bottom like to let em out !!!

You'll have your hands full if you get a big-un on. I use the Santee-Cooper rigg for all my catfishing. Basically the C-rigg with a float just above the hook. I don't usually fish straight down but try to broadcast my lines out in all directions. I think only when they're suspended would I fish straight down. I think if you see the fish suspended then I would fish up off the bottom, mainly in deeper water. Otherwise I'd stay on the bottom and let the float keep the bait off the bottom.
