I went to hobby lobby and bought the thin knitting needles. I use them almost all the time now. Like them better than the store bought baiting needles. They are not as sharp and may be more difficult to use on hard maize.

My mother is a crocheting wizard!

I used to borrow them when I was a poor young man.

I bought a nice kit on E-Bay, contains 4 different size baiting needles and a drill, cost about 8 bucks

People balk at the price of a solar stainless baiting needle I use one for about 5 years trouble free the way they are designed you can even splice leadcore in a pinch on my second trip to Jasons it rolled off the dock...gone so I started buying cheap ones I went though about a dozen of them before I re-invested in another solar one....awesome product

I straightened out a paperclip and then made a hook on the end of it with my pliers....it's been working for me for boilies and corn...
