I understand today they weighed a Channel Cat at the Marina on Cert scales at 10+ lbs. It would be a new record for Benbrook. Anyone verify this?

I can verify it and I should have caught the dang fish..lol We hit benbrook up today and had a great three hours of fishing. Lots of sandies and hybrids and a few cats. The bite is on. Shad are being chased everywhere and fish are in 13-22ft of water. We thought the fish was a blue at first but once we got it to the boat, we both smiled and said that's a new lake record. We have missed quite a few that would have broken the record but this one hung on just long enough to get it in the boat. Bob, we caught it where I told you we were catching them last year.

Piepuncher. I was in that area, but using different bait than we were talking about before. Some light action, but nothing in thr boat.

You haven't heard any thing good about this lake? Where you been and who you been talking too. The lake has plenty of forage and habitat you live in Joshua it is close to you and loaded with plenty of big fish all spieces. I have pictures to prove it. The negatives are even me get my a-- handed to me out here some time.

I work with a lot of fisherman here in Joshua and they have nothing good to say about Benbrook when i ask them. I just bought me a boat last April and have been kinda new to fishing. I have caught fish at Whitney and Cleburne lake but i decided a while back to go to Benbrook and look it over. Didnt catch anything and talked to a guy at work and he said it was a poor lake to bass fish or to do any fishing in. I just took his word for it. Sounds like he's wrong. He also said that it was a very dangerous lake with all the stumps. Is it that hard to navigate? I didnt go through the whole lake the time i went there. So its good on cats? Would drift fishing be complicated with all the timber? Is it better to fish stationary?

Man i went on a non catching day also. No one i talked to that day had caught anything. I tried deep, shallow wind blown banks, drifted some, timber all i knew to try. Don't think it is a Lewisville, Tawakoni, Lavon, Texoma, type fishery but problably has some quality fish. I just didn't see them lol. Did see a pic in the bait shop of a quality and a half Crappie though. And the guy above me here seems to like it also lol.

Benbrook has some real nice big blues in it, but unfortunatly you will get skunked 4 out of 5 times to catch one...Fishing Benbrook regularly for cats requires lots of patience... JMO

Catching cats on Benbrook is easy if you know where to go and what to do. Its a good lake but it will take you some time to get to know it. We dont get skunked often if at all and if we do, we are very shocked and sad.
We have caught hybrids to 11+ lbs, channels to 10+lbs, Blues to around 35lbs, LG mouth to 9+, and the story goes on. Ensign now holds the record for Channel and I hold the record for the sorry yellow bass. If you cant find the hybrids, you can always find yellow bass and channel cats. Get out and give the lake a try.

One more note, the fish are very easy to find right now. They are all over the surface and on drops.
You notice I said we dont get skunked often, that doesn't mean we dont have crappy days. A two fish day is the pits and very depressing. We have a few tricks up the sleeve to fix a skunk. lol

I've never really had good luck on Benbrook until recently, when I got my kayak. I was always bank bound before. However, I recently started doing decent on crappie but still haven't had much success with catfish...yet. Hopefully I'll be able to start figuring it out since it's the closest lake to me. Piepuncher, looks like I should start trying to mark dropoffs this time of year. Thanks for the tip. smile
