After watching several Korda videos, i noticed alot of talk about backleads. Pinning the line to the bottom seems important, but is that just for wary fish on pressured waters, or does anyone here use backleads on a regular basis as well?

I seem to catch pretty fair without using a backlead, but im starting to get curious about the difference it might make. How many "more" fish i might have caught on a trip had fish not been spooked by bumping the line. Or, have our fish simply not had enough exposure to the hook links, line, etc to become aware of past mistakes?

Jeff thats why i use lead core on almost all of my rigs, it pins the line down behind the feeder/lead real good and cuts down on line bites big time. I use clip on back leads when ever im fishing some where with a lot of boat traffic so it doesn't get caught in the props.

cool, how does the clip on work? guessing it just runs down the line to the main lead when you get a fish on

In an english pond with no snags they work great, here in the states with brushpiles and rocks backleads can get you in a lot of trouble. Try pointing your rod tips down into the water almost. If you are fishing off a railing or dock I can see the benefit but other wise put those rod tips down

I think if you fish more then 40yrds from the bank the last few yards of line is over the lake bottum anyway
But if you want to be sure just put a big swan shot 2 feet behind the main lead..never use leadcore to much problems knoting that stuff..and if you loose a fish he is swimming around with the lead core ( dont like that idea)

I just use the korda sinking rig tubing but don't think carp are line shy at all here in Texas, even at town Lake. But it does give me peace of mind.

Back leads are a pain when there are snags, or weeds, but they are a dream for line management. For this reason I use them every time I can, which is most of the time.

Few things suck more than playing a fish and it runs into your other lines and wipes them all out.

+1

I will add that it also sucks when a boat goes over your lines and cuts them with the prop.

I hate back leads! They reduce sensitivity on your rig and cause lost fish due to snags.

If boats are a problem fish slack lines, rod tips under water and running leads with a long lead core leader.

How does a running lead rig work in combo with a long peace of leadcore richard?
And what would you do if you have to fish over a weed patch without the line getting stuck into the weed?

I almost always use back leads. I use a lead clip and have another line that is attached to lead and my pod. When I pick up the rod all I am draging extra is the lead clip. Works good for me, and never been a problem in weeds at Lake Austin.

Fishing over weed, I wouldn't use back leads or slack lines.
I guess I'd have to fish closer in if boats were a problem, fished Emma Long tons of times and really never had many problems as the need to fish at range is not there.
