Day 1 on lake Falcon was less then desirable with the 40+ mph winds from daylight to 5:00 PM, but we where motiviated to fish after the 8 hour trip and 200+ dollars of newly aquired plastic baits. The Triton 20X2 was up to the challenge and we made it from the Beacon Lodge up the river 10 miles to a cove we thought would have minimal effects from the windy conditions.

Once we arrived Jose got to hang out on the back deck and let me do the work up front fighting the wind with the trolling motor and it showed in the results. Jose ended up day 1 with 9 fish (best five 18+) and I stunk it up with 3 fish for 6+.

We did manage to break 1 Falcon Cara Head Turner and 1 Diawa Steez rod.

Jose (DiscoStu) Day 1 Big Bass 6lbs 6oz

Dennis (Tejasbasshunter) Day 1 Big Bass 4lbs 4oz

The forecast for Tuesday is light and variable winds so we are headed to the Tiger Cover area of the lake for some deep cranking, Carolina and Texas Rigs.

Tejasbasshunter, I was just there this past week and weekend for 5 days. Had one of my best(35+/best five) days ever last Thursday in the Salado across from Beacon. Best morning producer was the Bomber Fat Free Shad BD7 in fire tiger thrown anywhere there was rock that dropped to 20+ feet. Threw them on 20lb Suffix braid banging them into rock and through the bushes. Later day bite was on rocky drops from 18 ft in to deeper water using C'rig and T'rig soft plastics in Plum. Was targeting the the sharpest drop offs I could find.

What is the current lake level? Is it still high? We were there in the spring and it was really high. Good luck catching them!

20 feet lower than it was in February. Now it is just about the same as it was when the Elite series tore them up a couple of years ago. 13 feet below full pool....looked like a completely different lake this past weekend.

Day 2 on lake Falcon was 180 degree change to slick conditions with almost no wind most of the day. We stuck with our plan to fish in the Tiger cove area, which cost us since the numbers went up slightly but the quality went down.

Jose continued to whip me from the back deck with 12 bass (best five 14+), big bass was 4.04 and I stunk it up with 6 fish with only 1 keeper for 2.03 lbs.

We managed only to break 1 more Diawa Steez rod, it is hard to believe these bad boys are worth the 4 large at BPS, good thing they ahve a lifetime over the counter warranty at BPS. All rods have been broken on fish, we landed 1 just under 5 yesterday on a broken rod, the other two got away.

My air card is slow tonight so no photo's. I wil try and get them up tomorrow.

We will fish in areas close to Beacon Lodge tomorrow and not start with any predetermined baits. hopefully the fish will tell us what they are hungry for instead of us force ffeding them what we want them to bite!

Day 3 on lake Falcon found the winds blowing 10-20 from the southeast which is very manageable on this lake. We continued with our plan to fish in the mid lake area around Beacon Lodge, "School Bus Cove" and in Salado near Guerrero Church. This by far was the best day of fishing this trip (guess the fish are recovering from the cold front that passed through on Monday) total numbers and weights improved which will have us in the same area tomorrow.

Jose started the morning off with a 6.13 which had expectations high. He finished the day with 9 bass (best five 19 even), finally the fishing gods let me play and I ended up with 12 fish (best five 15.03).

No broken rods today, guess we finally figured it out.

The signal out here is very slow so pic's will not get posted until we get back home on Saturday night.

Based on todays results we will fish in the same areas that produced best today with several new areas with similar structure.

On a side note Takahiro Omori was on the lake today with a film crew. We fished in the same areas in Mexico, it is amazing how fast those guys cover water.

We have a guide set up for Friday (rescheduled from Monday due to 40+ MPH winds) but the weather is looking like thunderstorms right now.

Day 4 on lake Falcon started off with winds from the southeast at 5-10 MPH.

We started fishing in areas we had success on the prior day in the mid lake area near Beacon Lodge.

This was the best total weight day we had thus far and the first time I beat Jose in the bass fishing challenge. We also had a double and busted the 20lb stringer mark for the first time.

Jose started the morning off with a 5.11 and I followed with a 3.07 and a 2.15 in the same area. From there we made a milk run to multiple area's with similar structure not spendning more the 20 minutes in any one place unless we caught a fish. This proved to be the ticket as we both caught some nice stringers. Jose weighed in a 5.01, 1.15, 4.13, 3.13 & 4.03 for 19lbs 13oz and finished the day with 9 bass, I weighed in 3.07, 2.15, 2.14, 2.06 and a 8.08 for 20lbs 6oz and ended up with 8 fish.

New Big Bass (8lbs 8oz)for the trip.

2nd day without a broken rod.

We have guide Jim Edwards lined up for tomorrow, expectations are high and we look to have our first 30lb 5 fish bag. Jim is going to have us fishing deep ledges for the elusive 10 lb bass. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and allow us to fish, high north/northeast winds and storms are in the forecast.

I must say if you ever come to Lake Falcon you must go by and see James at Falcon Lake Tackle, he has every color you will ever need when it comes to plastics and is eager to share his local knowledge to help make your trip more enjoyable, not to mention he is a good o'boy!

We ran out of the super double top secret color and made a call to James from the lake to see if he had it in stock, he said yes and stayed open late until we could get there. I guess we should have never expected less with the TFF sticker on the front door!

Photos from the trip

Day 5 on lake Falcon started off with no wind and slick waters which was perfect for the deep water jig fishing on ledges, old ruins and points, then mother nature said sorry boys and the winds and rain started, 30+ northwest winds sent us scurrying back to the boat ramp early.

We started fishing on a deep point with 1 oz jigs and on the 1st cast I landed a 5.04, 5 or 6 fish later we moved to fish some old ruins ont he main lake channel and Jose landed a 6.06.

The waether made it difficult to keep stat's but Jose had about 19 lbs again and I was around 13 lbs. We did break off some good fish but that is fishing and the trip with Jim was very educational when it comes to this type of fishing.

5lbs 4oz

6lbs 6oz

Jim Edwards is a great guide and if you come to Falcon and need someone to put you on fish give him call.

Tomorrow morning we will hit the lake for a few hours then head back home. It seems like we just got here and now we are leaving, can't wait until next time!

I don't know what others were using but big junebug jigs, and big Yum Dingers t-rigged in green pumpkin purple seem to be working well right now.

Plus 1 on Edwards, super nice guy who knows the lake like the back of his hand. He works really hard to get you on fish.
