What's a good rod to cast 3/8 oz. Sammy's and H20 knockoffs? My buddies, in the same boat, just cleaned my clock throwing them a lot farther than I could, and outfishing me 10/1. One guy was using a $40 Ugly Stick, and still beat me!
I need a rod that will throw them a long way and still have some backbone, and will properly walk the dog! What do you think? Not too expensive, BTW! Would that be a medium action about 7'? and what can I buy for not too much money? Ordinarily I don't buy expensive rods, my most expensive ones are the original, and low rider Falcons. (I have good reels, BTW.)
While we're at it, what would you recommend for pitching and T-rigging plastics, that's senstive, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Loomis MBR 782. I like the 783 for the sammy 115 and spooks... but then again, really, just about any 6"6 M action rod would probably work for any of those sammys, from the 85 to the 115...

Honestly, it might be more of an issue with the reel you're using or line... those sammys work the best with light line... I don't use anything heavier than 10 lb for the 85 and maybe 12, at the most for the 100. You can get away with 15 test with the 115, tho.

I do use heavier line for topwaters, 17-20 lb mono, and so were the other guys that day. My reels are good, no issue there. But my operative words were "what can I buy for not too much money? Ordinarily I don't buy expensive rods, my most expensive ones are the original and low rider Falcons.)"

Thanks for the suggesions, but I think Dobyns and Loomis are out my price range for now.

BTW, I think Allstar is out of consideration, because I don't like to break rods! If you read the Academy post, about 1/2 of the posts were about broken rods!

I think my main problem was too heavy rods (MH)

Skeet Reese Tessera topwater rod, 90 bones and works great. And if you need to flag down a passing boater for help, well hard to beat safety yellow on the rod!

I also am really liking my St. Croix Mojo topwater rod, again, about 90 bones and its joker purple.

I got a buddy that swears by Okuma Reflexion rods. they're like 60 bones and to him are the best thing since hula Poppers.

This one right here, CastAways Duraflex 6'6" med. DMC66-X, or the DMC7-X if you like 7'ers

If you like the split grip take a look at the Skeleton series Carolina Rod Medium 6'8" this is the one I use a perfect match. SKFCRM68

ISW842 or ISW843 from www.texassidewinderrods.com Only about $130 and you can get it made your way like at Burger King! Choose your thread color, handle style, and even have your name put on the rod.
