I took a day off from flounder fishing to do some crappie fishing at my boat slip in Conroe where we live and caught this 50#+ Yellow cat on my ultra-light crappie rig. The fish was 48" long and we weighed it on a 50# scale that topped out at 53.8# but we know it weighed more.

How long did you have to fight him? You obviously know how to tie a good knot!

Way to go! Great fish, hooked a big yellow also this weekend and never was able to turn it, broke of 65lb power pro! Wish we had gotten it in. Congrats on this fish once again!

It was about a 30 minute fight. He pulled line and I kept taking up the slack till he finally came up. I was sure I had a big carp till he finally showed himself. It was so much fun and people kept gathering and watching to see what it was. I'm glad a person in a few slips from me had a gaf. No one had a big enough dip net to get him in. It was 8# test line on the ultra-light reel also. The LORD just wanted me to have him is all we can think.

Greatness bud!!! I 'magine that was a fine scrap on an ultra-light! Looks like fish fry or two you put together there.

Awsome catch. That was what the fisherman in Kansas was doing when he caught the state flathead record of 125# on 10# test line crappie fishing. hmmmmm Maybe I need to take up crappie fishing now. lol

First off congrat's & good job! Second, has anyone noticed how many crappie fisherman catch trophy yella cats? I've heard of this so many times.

Yellows like to pick off crappie. I used to catch flatties while crappie fishing dock lights in Georgia....they would always have one or two crappie in their bellies when I cleaned them.

That there would be my fish of a life time, at least in fresh water. I would have lost it for sure. Good thing you had a gaff.
