Is the water too cold to catch blue crab in the surf? I'm going to be out at San Luis Pass this weekend and thought I might try to catch some.

Are you wanting to catch some to eat? If so your best bet would probably go and by some. It may be too cool to have much luck.

Was in Corpus area last week for 3 days. didn't see one crab of any sort, alive or dead and I fished the inshore area around NAS Corpus and Baffin Bay from a boat and Packery and Bob Hall Pier 2 days. No crabs - NADA.

Back when it was legal to go floundering in November I would always see a ton of them in the passes where I walked. Dont think the water is really cold enough yet to affect them too much.

I asked the same question back in 10/23 in the Salt water report. Haven't caught one blue crab in my crabtrap yet, did get 2 undersized stone crabs though. Can't imagine where they are and if they aren't here, they sure should be by now!!?????

Funny, I caught 4 or 5 fishing at Rollover Pass yesterday. Threw them back.
