I have never seen a stripe on a crappie like this before. Has anyone else?

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

I read an article recently that said that is a cross breading between a black male crappie and a white female crappie. When a white male crosses with a black female the mark may or may not be there.

I have even caught a few on Granger, even though they say it is a black crappie(not supposed to be any here).

We have them on Lake Conroe also. Some of us started calling them a magic marker crappie. They usually fight harder than the other crappie. They look almost like some one marked them with a magic marker.

Matt Yea, ask Ernest. Them is Ernest's marked Crappie. He marks 'em then releases 'em. See, they are all over.

Wally Marshall calls them Black Nose Crappie. Not sure about the geneology but they fry up REAL GOOD!

Legend has it that Ernest's grand daughters mark them with a Sharpie and toss them back in.
I've read that if the eggs are subjected to extreme temperature or barometric changes, the hatch will be a sterile crappie with a black nose or racing stripe.
I kinda like the legend myself.
