Well, me and one of my friends tested out our new kayaks on the Colorado. I was testing out my Fish n Dive and he was testing out his Pelican T130 tandum.

We put in at Fishermans Park, Bastrop and we took out @ the bridge in Smithville. The water was down about 2-3ft. and the rain from the last few weeks did not get up high enough to clean off most of the islands. We had lunch across from Pine Forest Golf Course. We found this guy "jack-0" floating down the river and decided to give him a quick carving.

We did see 3 bald eagles(2adult and 1 juv.), 1 nest, 50 or so herons, and 100's of king fishers. I have yet to get a good picture of a bald eagle maybe next time. Here was the nest. It was at least 6ft. wide.

We did find a good spot @ 16mi. to make camp.
View up river from camp. Next time I am bringing some rods this place looked very fishy.

We had a nice sunset.

We got rained on sunday so did not get many pictures.

We put in at 10:00am camped at 4:00pm. We put back in at 11:30am took out at 2:30pm. I did not do any fishing just wanted to test out the kayak. Next time I am going for some cats.

Tell me about it... How could you do that? Fishing should be the top priority. Even if testing out the yak is first, fishing should still be on the list somewhere....

I had already tested out the fishability of the kayak.

how was the water temp? I have never taken out they yak this time of year because i was not sure how the water temp would be for fishing in the rivers and also for getting wet?

It was not bad at all. Maybe just below 70. Just get yourself a good pair of wadders for when it is cold. Just remember to always keep you life jacket on when wearing wadders and it does not hirt to have a knife attached aswell.

yeah i think since i am still a fair weather fisherman i might have to get a pair of the breathable waders and give it a shot. I hate walking by my kayak all winter without getting to take it out.

Nice pics. Ditto on the rods. I take it you got the kitties on a trot line?

PS: Modelo is excellent beer. Try it in a cold mug with a pinch of salt and dash of lime. Good stuff...

Nope, Lake Granger/San Gabriel rod and reel. I have not tried to set any trot lines out of a kayak.

I did last year but did not do too good. I ended up putting one right over a brush pile... I felt bad because I probably ended up killing some fish because I could not get it back.
